As most of you know, Gator is my brother and he builds some down right awesome race car models. He does his own lettering and casts his own wheels and tires in addition to vacuforming some of the best looking short track bodies this side of the real ones. I have quite a few of his models that he has built me for Christmas and birthday presents over the years that, along with my brother, I am quite proud of. I hope you will bear with me as I share some of them with you and pay homage to the best little race car builder I know, my kid brother.

This is one unique-looking car there! Could you provide some more information on it (both the real car and the model).

Back around the late seventies to early eighties dirt track racing took an abrubt turn away from the stock bodies that had always been the norm when they discovered "free horespower" from air (downforce=traction in the turns). Engines that make you faster down the straights cost a lot more than aerodynamic tricks that make you faster in the turns. Doesn't matter if you gain speed on the straights or the turns it still shows up in faster lap times. They had already been building their chassis out of square tubing instead of altering the factory frames so it was a short step to the new bodies. They started by putting new long plastic chin spoilers on the factory Camaros and Mustangs and cutting the winshield posts to lower the front of the roof for more downforce and a smaller frontal area and just went from there. Here's a link to my brother's site that shows his models from those and earlier years to the present that will show you in depth just what happened in the "dirt wars".

And here's the location for my son's e-magazine with the real cars. I think there may be some of the "wedge" cars there. Hope you enjoy them. Check the galleries in the blue box on the upper right of the screen. BYW "Echoes of Thunder" is my column so take a look at it too and let me know what you think.
