Fuel pump question

I have a 98 fb. It is hard to crank but then runs fine. Mechanic told me my fuel pump is going bad and it would cost $800.00 to replace it because the entire rear end of the car must come off to get the tank off. Any idea how I can do this cheaper??

He was'nt kidding it's a bigger job than most. You don't have to remove the rear, just pull the shocks & lower it & get the exhaust out of the way.

Unfortunately, the part is friggin' expensive, over half the price of the job. They don't just sell you the pump, the holder bracket and sending unit come with it. You might be able to find a universal pump, and adapt it. Could cause you more headaches than you started with though.
