Different Eclipses. Which to choose?

Hey guys! I'll try to make this as "non-newbie" as possible.

Problem: I want a fast car with cheap performence.

Solution: Buy an Eclipse! (According to research.)


Which Eclipse? I'm currently debating between 2g GS-T and 2g GSX. As we can see here it's the FWD vs. AWD. Normally this would be a no-brainer, right? But I've looked into this, and this is what I've found...

FWD: %10 flywheel to wheel horsepower loss.


AWD: %30 flywheel to wheel horsepower loss.
AWD: 300lbs more in the Eclipse.

Then there's the extra cost for AWD. Is AWD worth the extra weight/horsepower loss/cost?

I'D go with GSX. The gs-t will only cause more wheel spin with more HP. Plus GSX will kill any gs-t off the line. If youre looking for brute power off the line go with GSX. If youre looking for a fast highway car then go with GS-T. Both still good cars :smokin:

AWD is most certainly worth it if off the line acceleration is important to you. The AWD is a couple hundred pounds heavier, but remember that the AWDs are geared lower, which basically cancels that out. I have no problem pulling FWDs on the highway with similar power output, and I absolutely molest them off the line. If you want the most bang for the buck, a 92 AWD TSI or GSX is the way to go. If you want a 2g, the early 2Gs are less money but slightly more prone to the relatively rare crankwalk problem. In my opinion the 92s are the best way to go. MAny of my friends have run mid 12s for a total of 4k invested, and that includes the cost of the car ;) With FWD however, that will be impossible. It takes more power, and more money invested in tires and suspension to even begin to compete on the AWD level. IF you jsut want a car that pulls hard on the highway, then it may be worthwile to save a couple grand and go FWD. But I cant see the point if you have the choice. :) Hope that helps.
