What choice would you make

Well i thought about it, but i decided there's no way i could afford either one right now...My choices were...a beat up 1972 Chevelle with a brand new 350 tranny and no engine. Or a 1974 Chevy Monte Carlo, with a 454 Big block. I can't afford them so i'm not going to get either one, but which one would you have gotten. I probably would have went with the Chevelle, just because even though it was in shitty condition it still looked bad ass.....even though it wouldnt go anywhere either....

I'd probably go with the '72 Chevelle cause here in CA it's smog exempt. And the '74 Monte I don't believe is.. they've changed the smog laws slightly... so I could be wrong.

Although the Chevelle is missing a motor, you can fix that by buying a quick GM performance crate motor for $1300. Cant really go wrong with it. 260hp 350tq with a 4 barrel carb and headers. Plenty of power to just cruise around in.

And you can always fix up a GM car, plenty of companies make parts for them now. It's not even funny.

The 72 Chevelle is a good choice, if you are handy with tools. Otherwise, the 74 Monte Carlo is the better choice for a novice since it has all the major parts there.

Personally I would never buy a car that I couldn't drive home. Can't drive it won't buy it. :nono:

I have to agree with RedNeck, but I think you'd want more power :evillol:.
I also think the 1972 Chevelle could be a better looking car in the end.

I think they changed it to '75 and older.. I think thats the year of my friend's GMC Jimmy.. and he was so happy to be able to put on a set of long tube headers along with his new GM 330hp crate motor.

I'm pretty sure it is 30 years. It started out that cars 1973 and older were exempt, then in 2004 cars 30 years old and older are exempt. Last I heard someone was trying to change it so that 1973 is the last exempt year forever. Oh, and Diesels are still exempt. So if you find a diesel olds or volvo from the 80's you can drop a 454 in their and the feds won't know.
