Yeah, you're going to need the transmission from a Lancer, too. One of the guys on my college lacrosse team has a 2003 Lancer with the 2.0L engine, and I noticed that the transmission code is different and the housing is bigger.

As far as finding one, you're going to have to play vulture and scout out the local junk yards for Lancers that have been dumped. If you try to go through a company the price of the engine is a bit steep: I was told $7500 for the front clip. I don't know what labor would cost to do the swap, or if it's a straight drop in or if any cutting and welding are required.

If you do this swap, please post up the results for the forum.

I don't have any personal knowledge about it but here are a couple links from mirageforums.net that may help:

Well the motor you'll find in a 90-95 turbo Talon/Eclipse or a "Plymouth Laser of the same vintage. The transmission on a 4g15 (if stndrd) is the same tranny that's in the afore mentioned same # n' everything. 93-96 mirages' are easy swaps for the 4g63t the only required parts are obviously the 4g63t wiring harness an aftercooler w/ piping and you'll need one motor mount manued. Other than that all the guys I've talked w/ that've done it say it clears everything fine.

I'm actually in the finishing touchs wiring up my Mirage to Evo III conversion. i have to say the info tommy knuckles is not all true, you will find the the spline count on tranny, the from years 91 on up later models have 23 spline output shaft and they should match. so no way on miss matching the year, only the 89 and 90 models matchs, forgot the spline number off the top of my head for those 2 but if you really need then i'll post later. i'll post pictures later if you all here are interested to see the EvoIII. Anyhow i use to work as a rally machanic so hit me up when your stuck on something, just ask if i can't figure it out i got a large network of racing gearheads that might know. Hopfully i've help you out. Oh! the 91 goes up to 93 before they flip the engine back the other way, so they also wont crossover to the 94 to 98
those engines will fit into your latermodel mirage 97 on up but the drive line and rear diff will still be used out of a 93 eclipse gsx talon tsi laser rst they have the perfect lenght and width no need to cut the drive shaft at all, if you choose to AWD swap a coupe mirage then you need to find the galant vr4 92 models drive shaft also plug and play no fab work to it. But you do need to weld mounting brackets for the driveshaft and the rearend.

well if you take an oldschool Dsm motor from the laser, talon etc you have to fabricate the motor mount and the best thing to do is to get the evo 3 tranny with the drive train to convert to AWD. yeah another site to get this info for a guy who did this swap from a 95 mirage to a EVo3 is

www.evolutionm.net or www.mirageforums.net

once you go there look up the same swap and he has a detailed list of all the parts he brought etc. look it up
