Does the 240SX have a factory amplifier?

I just put an aftermarket CD/MP3 reader in my 93 240SX hatchback, and couldn't for the life of me get the damn thing to make any noise. the eq was jumping around (on the CD player) and the it was remembering the time, so I knew it had ignition and constant power, as well as it was actually reading the CD. after six hours of desperate experimenting I decided to try some very risky procedures...ya know, touching random leftover wires to random other leftover wires. Hoping I wouldn't blow up my car, but at the same time not giving a shit, I touched a blue and white wire (I thought it was another power antenea wire) to the blue wire on my wiring adapter kit...and boom, the radio blares to life! I checked the wiring guide and the blue wire reads "factory amplifier"

That is pretty damn funny. You got really lucky with that one. My friend tried that with his and it not only f' ed up his radio but somehow it blew his speakers as well. Pretty weird....

i've never been into car audio, but i though every car stereo used some kind of basic amplifier. i could be wrong tho...

did you buy a wiring adaptor kit?
or did you just splice and connect?

Jetts- A little from column A, a little from Column B.

Grncivichdr- that's correct, but a lot of the time, radios and such will keep the amplifier inside the assembly that contains the cassette player/CD reader/tuner/etc...etc...it's rare to see a factory component Amp outside the Radio...I think the Supra has a Component Amp under the passenger seat.

i believe s14's only came with factory amp

yeah, same shit happened to 2 of my 240's ive instaleld decks in, just wire the "amp" wire to a speaker wire and you should be fine i believe,

but the wiring is tricky, because the 240 does not have a factory amp(s13)

Ohhh how much? It was from your old S14 right? Would this work on an S13?

The only S14s that came with OEM amps are SE's. Some base models may have came with amps, but it's highly unlikely that anyone who originally bought a base model wanted them.

well guys, you all are saying that S13s don't have factory amps, and if that's the case, somewhere along the line, the previous owner of mine got itchy and threw one in...I found it right where it should be on the cars that came with one from the factory. Yes, I have an S13-D, Nissan 240SX SE...93 model in case it matters.

I've got a 90' S13 and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have an amp because the way its hooked up (non-stock speakers/faceplate), the headunit is powering everything... maybe in 91' they started including the amp?

I dont know if it will work, but if you want it give me an offer. I have no idea what this is worth

Addition: I'm not contradicting you guys who are saying there aren't factory amps in the S13...I'm just saying that someone added one in to mine...and did a good job of it to, considering that it's grounded and powered by factory wires...

S14's came w/ factory amps on the SE and option on the base model. I know this because my 95 base model came with it and my brother's base model *same year* didnt. There is an FAQ on how to bypass them if you want to add an aftermarket amplifier on 240sx.org. I recommend getting an aftermarket one as the factory clarion set-up isnt anything great. I have no idea about the S13's though

My son has a 95 S14 240SX. It has 2 factory installed amps mounted side by side in the rear deck, accessable from the trunk. One for the front speakers and one for the rear. He had a new receiver installed. As you know, they come with there own amps and would like to bypass them as the one for the front quit working and now the front speakers don't work. Any ideas? TP

were the blue and white wires connected to the ECU or where did they connect? Cuz I put an aftermarket CD player in my 93 fastback and the antenna doesnt go up so I get shitty reception..I have a couple wires not in use in the actual head unit wire harness...

thanks
