Museum Collection decals

I recently purchased the following Museum Decal sheet:

Does anyone know what Museum Collection's method of application is? Before anyone says, 'put it in water and apply to the surface' I've already used this method and it doesn't work! All that happened was that the decals were very fragile. Once you slide off the backing paper, the decal just cracks up!

Can anyone help?? :1zhelp:

Thanks for that _835_. Sounds about right. Overnight sounds a long time for a decalling job! I wonder if the process can be speeded up using a hairdryer...hmmmm...

I've used Museum Collection deals before and they are of the "Hi-Tech" variety. They are very difficult to apply. Basically you need to get them in exactly the right position straight away. Any movement once on the model will tend to release the graphics from the carrier film. That is because the carrier film is designed to come away.

When they are dry use some low tack masking tape (i.e. Tamiya) to remove the carrier film. Very carefully of course. I only waited a few hours and used a hair dryer to speed things up. If all works well they look great, especially for driver names on the windows of rallycars.

In general though the resolution and accuracy of Museum Collection decals don't seem to be as good as Studio 27 or Renaissance.

I have experienced the difficulty of their application and it is more frustrating than anything else. Seems like Museum Collection has designed these as a 'one-chance' only decal (probably a sadistic marketing ploy to get you to buy more than one sheet :evillol: ).

God knows how I'm gonna tackle the compound curves and stuff on the model :disappoin

Use Microscale Industries Liquid Decals Film on these before trying to apply them. In fact if do a lot of modeling you should have the whole Microscale range.

I did use the Liquid Decal Film fist and all it did was to smudge the inks!!!:banghead:

exhaust smoke I think you may have a duff sheet of decals there. Sound like they have not printed the clear coat. The only time I've had this happen that was the case.

I bought a set of Museum decals for my Escort Cosworth earlier in the year and the blue sections are not even metallic.I'm sure they were metallic on the real works Escorts.They seem to be printed ok,though they do look a little on the thick side.One of the reasons I've put off doing my Cossie is because of the decals.I can't see them following the curves of the body.I prefer the S27 decals as I've never had any problems with them.

Sounds about right. There seems to be no layer to bind the ink together. I have since purchased a set of Crazy Modellers decals to replace the Museum Collection ones.

I agree with you Steve, Studio 27's decals are far superior, probably as they are printed by Cartograf. Museum Collection can produce some good decals, but the majority of their decals are not very clear, as the colours are either wrong or are smudged.
