97 Grand Am Transmission problem

I just got a 97 Grand Am w/ the 2.4L and an auto. tranny. The engine light is on and gives the code: p0753 Shift solenoid A circuit electrical when checked.
It will shift from 1st to 2nd but only for a second then shifts back down to 1st if pedal is pressed more than about 25%(and goes between the two as long as you try to go with any moderate acceleration).
If I'm barely on the gas it will shift normal to 4th but once past ~30mph it won't shift back down to 1st or 2nd, or 3rd even floored!
It will shift down if done manual but still has the 1st to 2nd shift problem. I can shift from D to 3rd and it'll accelerate but only in 3rd still no shift down to 1st or 2nd.
