my idle is kinda messed up. when i start it up when its cold, its really shakey, vibrating the whole car. it refuses to stablize. also, sometimes when i put it in neutral after high revs, it will fall below the normal idle (750) down to like 200-300, almost stall, and then jump back up to ~1100. on rare occations it fluctuates back and forth between these extremes and will not stablize until i rev it up a little. then it comes back down to normal idle.
it sounds like a bad valve of some kind. any ideas?

my friends 89 cavalier just had this problem. its the EGR valve. it doesnt open properly. they replaced some other part and then it blew a rad hose, but then they found out that it wasnt the problem so they put the used part back in cause it was still good (and its part of their servicing contract, dont pay for what u dont need- not even for the labour it took for them to install the part if its a wrong one). so they replaced the egr valve and put in a new hose. it seems perfect now. and i love their 6 cyl sound out of those older z24s. so burly and mean.
