Raising the redline--?

Ive heard people say that you can raise your cars redline and make it a crazy revver and get lots of power gains. I have no idea if this can be done and how can it be done. I have an SiR b16a2 where the redline is 8000 rpm, if raising the rev range is posible how far can my car rev safely and what things do you have to modify for your car to rev up really high, and whats the cost. I have no idea on this issue, just want to increase my knowledge and since there are lots of people with tons of knowledge on this, this is the place to ask.
Its not like im going to do that if it is possible to my SiR, When I have money (2-3) years Ill supercharge it.

Well what you've heard is kind of true. The gains are not that great and you can't raise it to like 12k and shit. Also the way you do it is to upgrade your valvetrain and maybe shot peen your rods and balance your crank. How much does at least valvetrain upgrade cost? at least a 1,000 US. To get gains from valvetrain work aggressive cams are used but if you plan to supercharge than all this is not really suggested.

Oh ok, but yeah the engine will not last as long, and if the power gains are not high, not worth it. Better go the f1 route.

what you have heard is completely wrong. raising the stock rev limiter does nothing except cause more wear on the motor. they think it gives more power because to raise the rev limiter you need to add a chip. the chip retunes your cars fuel maps which gives more hp but it has nothing to do with the rev limiter. forced induction is a better way to go but i would not supercharge my Si if i had one. ive seen people spend over 3k on a Jackson racing supercharger and dyno at 180hp. thats pathetic. that 3k on NA mods would have given you more power. go turbo for that engine and youll like it a lot more. not to mention it could be cheaper to turbo if you know what youre doing.
i have a supercharger on my car so im not biased in any way. but i do not drive a honda and my supercharger setup is totally different from what you can use on a honda.

The supercharged ones you say that are pulling 180 whp, thats pathetic. There are many vortech siRs that are pulling way above 200 whp. If I supercharge it, I want 220+ whp, which is very doable.

yah i did. i should change that. i have a 90 corrado g60 running on 20 pounds of boost :evillol: would have blown my hatchback out of the water.

:2cents: : stronger internals and workin toward that 1.75 R/S ratio are another 2 really good ways to increase rev limeted
