top speed

i dont know if they lose power but ive f*cked up the suspension on a newer monte carlo ss doing 130, had that happen in an older camaro already too i dont think stock front ends like to go that fast too often.

I can easily hit 115-120 in my 97' RS and thats just from stoplight to stoplight...they say that top speed on our cars is 150?

I've gonne 115mph in my V6 and I dont know if it will lose power when reaching high speeds but i think it doesnt. The thing is that when I slow down from 115mph to 60mph you feel as if you were going 20mph. No wonder why its said that speed is addictive.:icon16:


And to the guy of going 120mph from stop light to stoplight. I'll say it could be true but the thing is how far the stoplight you mean is.:rofl:

Well just because the Camaro is older dosn't mean shit. The newer ones have governers though unless u get it in the uk or some thing. Mine up to 120MPH and the guy I bought it from supposily got it to 150 that is what it goes up to on the dash. One ? I have is with new wheels does that throw the speedometer off or what?

I have an 85 Iroc, with a 305. It has a 3" flowmaster all the way, a throttle body with about twice the flow of the original, racing distributor and spark plugs and spark plug wires. I did some other small stuff to it, but nothing too major, like bigger tires and whatnot. I want to get an idea of about what my car's top speed is, since I had a '91 RS with a 3.1 and I more then pegged out the 110 speedo on that one, and my friend has an '84 firebird with a 305, and his car is rated to 155 or something. My car has more performance parts then his and I hit 60 in first gear at redline so the 85 mph speedometer doesnt give me any idea of my car's maximum speed, so I was wondering if anyone out there has any ideas. Also, my tranny is the Turbo 400.... which seems to be the one everyone I know with a GM around the same year as mine has. If anyone has any ideas or can tell me a good way to find out then thatd be cool.

I have pegged my speedo out and it kept pulling for a few seconds before I shut it down. I do not know what the top end is on it but I do know that it will not by any means hit 190 w/out about another 10,000 bucks put into it. And for the vette guys...just as the camaro's are governed so are the vettes...at around 165 stock I believe. That's not to say that they can't do well over that though

I have an '86 Z-28 5 speed with 3.73 gears..... I'll be honest and tell you that the fastest i've had the car going is well, not exact, but the last i saw was 115mph. I'm confident the car coulda hit 120, but like Hypsi said, in a car that big, coming into a corner is VERY scary. I made sure to let off the gas and get on teh brakes a little under 1/4 mile before the corner. The stretch of road isnt like an open highway, but its where moslty everyone in town goes to top out motorcycles, cars, what have you.... But to tell you the truth, I have much more fun powerbraking, fishtailing(when there is no oncoming traffic and what have you), and blowing the doors off of other cars... I don't think my car is the fastest car on earth, i just like to know i got some power under the hood at times. I like to know that my jeep is extremely capable, and I like to know when i want to drive to school, the malibu will get me there on the least amount of gas. Leave 120mph+ up to the vettes, WRX's, and other exotics. In the meantime, roast the tires all you want, pass as many as you can, but stay away from "pegging" the spedo

I hit 147 in my 96 Z28 - proof on my cardomain (link in sig). I've got a 4-speeed automatic... 147 was very close to the end of third gear. It wouldn't go past it though. I have Hypertech programming, Flowmaster exhaust, and a K&N filter. Even though I took off the speed limiter with the programmer, I think there is still a speed limiter at 147 somehow.

I doubt very seriously that it's a TH400 under your car. They were never available on 3rd gen F-bodies and it's most likely a TH700R4. With what you've listed I would guess it has about 125-130 MPH top speed...

i've had my z28 up to 140 but there was to much traffic so i backed off
I imagine if I balance my rotating assembly and get a racing damper i will be able to push my engine a little higher yeilding a better top speed(perhaps 170!) :)

What would an LT1 with a T56's and 4.10 gears top speed be around? Just curious.

155+ because I cant tell after that. 6th gear at 155 was at 5000RPMs so I know I had a lot more to go. And yes I have had the computer programmed for the gears, tires, and shut off... I will tell you what top out would be next time I have it up on jack stands, lol...

i hit 150 in the stang last night b4 i let off.. i think the gov is at 155... i had atleast the other half of 5th gear and 6th.. i dont remember what rpm i was at in 5th

i've burried the tach in the lumina several times.

It limits at 85mph, and it wasnt pinned, it was burried, and I was still accelerating. I hit about 100mph give or take 7 mph

My 89rs with a lt1 and t56 and 3.73 gears has easily hit 150 with no problem, but i'be also upgraded my whole suspension and it handles like a dream, it pretty much depends how much balls you have

yea i got kinda worried cause i was coming up to the main stretch on 235 where all the business and stuff are... good thing we slowed down cause we had just raced and slowed down to turn into dounut connection and there was a cop sittin there at the light turning.... he was eye balling us too

in my 91 RS v6 i hit about 115 bone stock, but i backed off cuz my struts r bad and i didnt wanna mess anything up because i could hear it scrape, it was fun tho!

I got to 121mph in my dads 2001 Civic LX going down a hill on 35E. It was great cuz my cousin opend the window and stuck his head out and the wind instantly threw his head into the side of the car. He had a big bruise right on his right temple for a week. He told his mom that he slipped in a parking lot and banged it on one of those side mirrors of someones truck lol.

So my (soon to be) 89 Z28 LT1/T56 would be able to get 155+ WITH the 4.10 gears? Or are you just bragging about your car? Haha I couldn't tell sorry. I thought with the 4.10 gears you don't get good top speed but your insane off the line and accelerating. If 155+ is going to be the top speed WITH the 4.10's, im thinking I might as well get 6.27's haha. I doubt it could get that fast but im just clarifying. :biggrin:

As much as I hate to admit it, I had the speedometer at 240kms an hour and was still climbing last wednesday night..............that is until i saw the roundabout, slammed the brakes and hit the roundabout at 150kms an hour. But i have to say that was and will always be the fastest i've ever been.

240 kms, thats around 140 mph right? daaamn glad youre alright
