Squeaking noise

I have a squeaking noise coming from my right front wheel. It squeaks every time the spring is compressed. I don't know a whole lot about suspension so bare with me.

I want to know what I can do with it before taking it to a mechanic. I noticed that it happens a lot more now in the fall than in the summer. It seems like it happens when there are changes in the tempurature, in other words.

The first thing I would do is: check for any cracked/broken suspension bushings. If nothing looks bad, then I would suggest lubing your bushings & go from there. If you do lube, make sure to do front/rear & left/right, not just where the noise is.

Most shops will do a free-inspection, after they tell you whats wrong then you can replace any needed parts or pay to have it done depending on what it is.

It kind of sounds like your spedo cable might be the cause. If it sounds like there are birds living insinde your dashboard. Especially when its cold. The progression from soft and barely noticeable to ludicrusly loud takes about 5000 miles.

One way to test this is jack your front driver side wheel up off the ground and secure it with jack stand put it in first and let the wheel spin. Listen for the squeek next to the wheel.

Then listen inside the car. If the noise is loud inside and almost non audible outside next to the wheel. Your spedo cable is going out. Buy new one for $25 and install.

The transmittion side is easy the dash side requires a removal and reinstall. Might as well put white gauges on while your in there.

Hope this helps

Sorry, I thought your were talking about front left. Maybe get a freind to bounce up and down on that side of the car and with the wheel and on jacks. then listen for where the squeak is coming from. Then simply grease and have peace.

I have a question caltegracraig, How the hell do you bounce the suspension(car) when its on jack(stands)? Seeing that they would support the frame & the suspension would fully droop.

The squeaking has recently subsided, mainly I think because the tempurature has stoped fluctuating, and I don't have the urge to get it checked out.

However, a new squeek has started, it happens when ever I start to accelerate, I mean the instant the car starts rolling and then stops once I hit about 5 mph. Could it be the clutch?
