I have a 1989 Buick Lasabre. The guy at the junkyard said 88-91 GM 3800 series computer would work. I bought it in case my computer was bad and or to have a spare.

I took a 'puter out of a 91 Olds regency with a 3.8 service # 01228253 which I have not installed yet.

I have a 39 code and a 41 code. Cam sensor. . .hmm engine runs fine. Shifts a bit too much going up hills.

Any ideas.

The 1228253 computer sounds like the correct part number..BUT they were JUNK...caused many driveability problems..call your GM parts department and give them the number..they can give you the new part number.
There is a magnet on the cam gear that triggers the sensor, the magnet has been know to desinigrate and set a 41.
Remove the cam sensor and spin the engine over by hand while watching the cam gear...you should see the magnet or where it should have been.
If it is missing, thats the cause of your 41.

Did you switch the proms in the computers?

Did you switch the proms in the computers?

I have not switched them yet. I bought the car used last Thursday. Going up hills at low speed it shifts alot from Drive to second. I guess the 39 code is the TCC circuit

I reset the existing computer by unhooking the battery for an hour. It immediately brought up the 39 and 41 code.

Where is this cam sensor located?

Cam sensor is located on the right side (passenger)of the engine under and slightly to the rear of the waterpump.
You will see the wires going to it. It may be easier to remove the serpentine belt get get better acces to it.
10 mm bolt holds the sensor to the timing cover.
