honda likers

okay i don't hate or like honda, i just don't understand why so many people love them. explain to me why vtec engines are so great. :screwy:

its simmilar to some ferrari engines where you have a gradual change in lobe height (on cam) the vtec has two diffrent lobe heights (on cam)

My car is docile when I want it to be, and pretty quick when I want it to be. It's the beauty of v-tec, down shift to 5k rpm and I am off to the races, keep the rpm's down and it is a viable commuter. Not only that but I have the performance of an RX-8 with a much more supple and spacious ride. (6spd Accord). My previously owned 98 Accord Sedan had great looks, my personal opinion, and was guranteed to put the wifey to sleep in the passenger seat on a long trip :)

itz not just vtec engines....itz the whole car....the affordability, the handeling, the endless aftermarket availability, the option to put just about any honda or acura engine into ur car....etc...

and the reliability and resale value doesn't hurt either.

the only bad thing about Hondas - they're easily stolen.

They need to start making them with bigger wheel wells so we can put some wider wheels on our cars (with 5 lug mounts).

its more of the affordability with the handling and gas mileage and looks all together for me. a good bang for the buck i guess.

There is no doubt that Honda cars and engines are very well made.
I can say this because I have 20 years experience fixing engines.
Also, there is no doubt that Honda charges more for their cars.
I can say that because you all already know it's true.

The question isn't whether Honda is a good or bad car, it becomes "Is Honda worth buying?". Here's the answer...

If you don't know crap about fixing your car... YES.
If you know about fixing your own car... NO.

Now, if you just love the way the car looks... well who cares how much money you pay... it is your money to enjoy what ever you want!

But, if you have limited funds and care more about getting from Point A to Point B, because you have a life outside the box, then follow this...

If you fix it yourself....

Buy a used domestic car... $10,000
Regular maintenance $150 per year
Preventative maintenance $300 per year
You can drive this car for 10 years and it costs $14,500

Buy a used Honda............ $13,500
Regular maintenance $150 per year
Preventative maintenance $100 per year
You can drive this car for 10 years and it costs $16,000


If someone else fixes it for you...
Buy a used domestic car... $10,000
Regular maintenance $300 per year
Average Repairs needed over 10 years... $5,000
You can drive this car for 10 years and it costs $18,000

Buy a used Honda............ $13,500
Regular maintenance $400 per year
Average Repairs needed over 10 years... $1,000
You can drive this car for 10 years and it costs $18,500

Bottom line... if you know crap about cars, get yourself a Honda, you'll be better off! Just turn the key and drive! Domestic cars aren't quite this simple. People who know crap about cars ignore signs and proper maintenance of their domestic cars and then they cry when the car breaks down. If you know about fixing cars, you'll understand that the domestic cars are made to break down!! But they are also made to be fixed very cheaply if you know how to do it yourself!!! Honda's on the other hand charge incredible prices for parts (rarely do you need them since these cars don't break down as much).

But how reliable is your domestic car???? If you change the parts that are wearing down BEFORE they break, you will NEVER need to call a tow truck! Honda's however "never" break down so you're safe (but not from the theives).

I have driven 4 different domestic cars within the past 30 years and I have NEVER needed a tow truck for any break downs. To be factual, I only needed to be towed after 3 accidents, all due to other drivers going TOO FAST or just ignoring the rules of the road. There are a lot of stupid drivers out there!!! Don't you know?

her cars about 6 year sold and it has NEVER been to a shop for ANY service other than timming belt ETC ie: interval service
on the other hand a 6 year old mustang my other friend has has already gone through one tranny and 4 clutches

not saying a mustang is more reliable than a prelude, but clutch and tranny could be driving habits.....

I agree with viper, its just as easy to burn out a honda clutch or any clutch for that matter if you dont drive well. Even though both of these reasons have been said already, i like hondas because they are reliable, you can get good power out of them for not too much money, and they are kind of like legos in that you can take parts from another honda and with little fabrication put them on your car. Plus they are good looking cars in my opinion, i just want to hug my car sometimes cuz its soo cute lol

well it depends on what you call too much money, making 300whp out of an 02 civic si that stock usually puts down about 150whp by spending 3000 on a turbo isnt that expensive for the gains not in my book anyway

to answer the question simply... we think they look good (i think i can speak for everyone). they are very reliable. resale value is great. there are tons of relatively inexpensive aftermarket parts, and a lot of potential to go fast.

They are great little cars. Fun to drive, not very expensive, and they'll run forever! They are also very easy to find performance parts for.
