99 Silverado Engine/Battery Problems

I am having a few problems on my 1999 Silverado 1500 4x4 5.3L V8 Regular Cab.
1) The battery light comes on when I turn the key to the run position and stays on for a few seconds after cranking and starting the vehicle. This did not come on when the vehicle is new. Battery gauge looks normal. A voltmeter shows about 13V with the engine off. The gauge shows slightly over 14V when the engine is running. I replaced the battery with a new one and the light is still on.
2) The engine idles rough. I have had it to the dealer a few times under warranty and they have never fixed the problem (for more than a few miles of running anyway).
3) The engine makes a clacking sound when I first start it. I have had this in to the dealer and they said that it was normal. To me, it sounds bad and I am concerned that this may lead to early failure of the engine. The sound is most noticeable in the cab, very noticeable outside the vehicle with the hood closed, but not noticeable much when the hood is open (due to the normal engine noise).
4) The engine makes a "hissing" sound. Not really like air but just like a really high pitched scratching or rubbing sound. This is heard in the cab or near the top of the engine with the hood up. It seems to be really noticeable around 2000 rpm.
5) The vehicle makes a rattling sound seemingly coming from the exhause or transmission when accelerating at fairly low RPM. This sound is really annoying (especially if a Ford loyalist is riding with me). This sound is generated most easily by accelerating in overdrive but goes away when the transmission shifts and RPM goes up.
Thanks,
Kerry Martin
