My check engine light has been on for about a month, I have a 2000 Accord SE, But the car is driving fine. I was told by a mechanic it would cost be around 450 dollars to fix the sensor as he figured the sensor had gone bad. But I am not sure about what he says, would it be trouble with the engine?

A honda service person just opened the gas cap and put it back, it obviously didnt work.

i would be very grateful for any helful suggestions....

Thanks a lot in advance....

The "check engine light" represents an emissions problem. Often it's a bad oxygen sensor or a bad cat, or a plugged egr. It's fairly hard to tell without actually pulling the code what the problem is though.

If it is a bad oxygen sensor how much would it cost to get it repaired? I was told it might cost me around $450. Does that seem ok ?

Thanks a lot!

Did you take it to a Honda dealer? Guessing will cost you money.
What trouble code was stored? An aftermarket shop will have no idea how to fix a P0133.

If I knew the trouble code, I could be more helpful...

a lot parts in emission system covered by Honda's 8/80,000 warranty, that includes O2 sensor, catalytic converter and etc.
check your warranty manual to find out what exactly has extanded warranty. then check what trouble code is stored in ECU and if that system covered under warranty take your car to dealer.
