Alarm/lock remotes fail

I have a 96 Accord EX that I inherited from my mother. It has three remote controls that lock/unlock the door and alarm system.
See photo in message 8 below.

(I don't know if this was factory installed, but the horn sounds when setting off the alarm.)

In any event, although I put a fresh battery in it, and the LED lit, the first remote stopped locking and unlocking the car. I started using the second remote and it stopped working in about two weeks. (It still lit the LED, the but signal was not understood by the alarm system to lock or unlock the car.)

I am now afraid to use the third remote, which does work, for fear that if it stops working, I will have no way to turn off the alarm.

Suggestions? Causes? Fixes? Costs?

Since you don't have the owner's manual, you can't find out how to reprogram the alarm's brain.

You could just replace the alarm system. If you do it yourself, it would be quite simple. Just rewire the wires from the old alarm to the new alarm.

Drive to a local dealership and ask them. If it's a honda system they will usually re-program them for free. If it's an aftermarket, go to a stereo and alarm shop that only deals with cars. They may have manuals or someone working there that can give you a little help.

What's it say on your remtoe? Never heard of any OEM remote with an LED light on it.

The "second" remote is black, with two grey buttons with I and II on them. In between is a red LED.

The back has a six digit code on a white label, and at the bottom of the remote is an FCC ID number.

I found my mother's original bill of sale, and it listed "alarm system" for $475 as an extra item... so I presume it was added by the dealer.

You most likely have an aftermarket alarm then. Is there any name on the remotes like "Valet" or Automate under the remote buttons?

I called the Honda dealer where my mother's car was purchased, and I also sent him a picture of the remotes. He said they were not original Honda remotes (although it was his shop that installed the system, and they say they only use Honda parts).

UPDATE: I went my local Honda dealer yesterday who pulled out the alarm module... and it had NO brand name or model number.

Boy, if I didn't know any better I'd swear that's either an old Code Alarm or Excalibur unit??? Dealers use to buy these real cheap, no name units so customers wouldn't know what they were.

and see if you can input your FCC ID# that's on the back of the remotes. Do not do the vehicle search because that will only bring up the OEM remotes.

I already visited r/u.com and my FCC number is NOT listed. I called them, and they said I would have to send in my working remote and they could make a new one from that. (Of course, they have not seen the remote, so they are making a promise sight unseen.)

Here's the latest:

I went to an FCC website where you can search the FCC ID number and see who registered it.

In my case it was Afromax Corporation in Taiwan. Poking around the Internet, I found that they sell under (at least) two brand names: Cenmax and Toppgunn.

On a promotional page from a foreign trade website I found a picture of my remote: model TDB2.

I found a way to email the company in Taiwan, but I am not hopeful of an answer.

Anyone hear of Afromax or Cenmax? (or know who has instructions, replacement remotes, etc.)?

Nope but they could be the actual makers of Code Alarm or some other bigger named unit.

Hi Edgar I know that company , well the programation procedure is very simpl just get in the car close all doors turn ignition switch to on then pres over 5 seconds the override switch the you will hera some chirps from siren then stop presing override switch , now press any button of transmitter the siren must emit 3 chirps , then take the other transmitter and pres any button and larm must emit 2 chirps then turn of the ignitio switch and make testings.
The remotes of that comapny are good but very sensibles so if they are damaged they will have to be serciced ( sorry for my english, hope understud)
