It seems to be taking an inordinate amount of time for my Blazer to speed up, no matter how hard I press down on the gas. This is especially true when driving up hills/inclines. I am guessing this is largely due to the fact that it's just an old vehicle. Is this true, or is it just something with the engine?

If your's is as big as mine, the acceleration is normal. At least mine does too. I found that after a full stop, let it roll for a second, hit the gas easy, and then pound it. I don't know what engine you have, I have a little 305, and it is not powerful enough for that.
