A number of things can cause a surge while driving.
Have you replaced your fuel filter lately?
Those model trucks also have problems with sticking poppets that will cause lean fuel mixtures resulting in no start, hard start, cold misfires or surging while driving...the poppets cannot be sucessfully cleaned with regular injector cleaning procedures. There is a GM bulletin and special tools just for that job.
