engine power loss when a/c is on

when driving on the highway consisent speed with a/c on, then try to accelerate and nothing happens have to pump 2 -3 times then it goes ,but with a/c off no problems.

Any ideas?

I believe the car is in high gear, and the A/C does draw power from the engine, so you'r having to put the pedal down, to get a "kickdown," that is, an automatic transmission downshift. Without the A/C, it's apparently not necessary. watch your tach next time it happens, and let us know.

Your shift pattern is different with AC on/ off and you might be noticing it more with the AC on. The AC system is a big power hog on the engine!

Ex. driving 65 mph and want to go 70 u give alittle gas and nothing happens , tach stays the same and acts as if it wants to die,after pressing the peddle abit (play with it) then it goes, and it does it between 55-70 only

i know it is a power hog but it should not be doing that, (i spoke with the previous owner and it never did it to him)
