My 85 S-10 Has Been Running Like Crap For About A Month Or So. It Seems To Be Missing And Sort Of Intermitintly Jumpy. I Decided To Rebuild The Carb, And Now The Damn Thing Won't Start. If I Spray Some Carb Cleaner Down The Carb And Pulsate The Gas Pedal While Cranking The Engine I Can Get It To Start For A Second, But I Have To Keep Pulsating The Gas Just To Keep It Running Very Poorly. I Know There Is No Problem With The Fuel Pump And I Also Have A New Filter In, Also The Distributer Cap And Rotor Have Been Replaced. Any Ideas????
One More Question...what Should The Air Fuel Mixture Screw Initially Be Set At? I've Heard Between 1 1/2 -- 2 Rotations Open From Being Completely Closed... Is This True?

Is there fuel in the fuel bowl? Your float valve might be set too low.

you will have to adjust your idle mixture. get a vacuum gauge and hook it up. run the engine and turn the idle mixture screw/s until you get the highest vacuum reading. set your idle speed on the throttle adjustment linkage. make sure you have the float bowl level adjusted properly or you will starve the engine of fuel or flood the engine. check all vacuum lines and make sure they are in the correct place. you should have a vacuum diagram sticker somewhere in the engine compartment. if not, get a manual. check your basic timing with the vacuum advance hose off. that should do it.
good luck!
