Which turbo....?

You should all know Im running my stock turbo still, and running it to its limits. My next upgrade definatly will be a turbo in about 2 weeks. This pay checks going to damn timing belts/fuel pump/fuel filter/555 inj/ etc. My question is what turbo and why. I hear alot about the 14b and the small 16g getting alot of power, quck spool up and great track times. But what about the big 16g? If anyone has a big 16g whats its spool up at and what rpm does it get full spool? Ok now for the 14b. Im kinda headding towards it because its a diract bolt on. Can it take my car into the deep 13's with the mods I have? Yeah I have 18's and its a spyder but there is another white spyder in my area thats running 19 inch chromes sponserd by HKS running 12's. Saw his slip at the last dsm meeting. Can the 14b be clipped and ported? Will this increase the power of the turbo and would i be able to run high psi? Same question with the small 16g? Great spool up? can it be ported and clipped? I would just like some pro's and con's if you would thanks.

What are you looking for power wise? I'd recommend an EvoIII 16g. It's larger than a Big16g, MUCH bigger than a 14b. You could install it without any additional work other than the install kit(199$). No matter what turbo you upgrade to, you're going to have to buy the install kit or bend your water lines & ghetto fab. it. The T-25 has a different housing & install. The EvoIII 16g is the next turbo I'm looking for. Tons of usuable power, virtually no lag & quick spool up.

I ran a 14b for a while, and any 16g is hardly an upgrade. Where you can get a good 14b for like 200$, your looking at triple that for a 16g. Yea 14b can get you into the 12's, but you'd need drag slicks, and some nice driving to back it up.

18gs have hardly impressed anyone. 14b is a fun turbo, mainly because they are 100 bucks used, and run low 12s (Leon ran 11.84 on one). I went 13.7 on the stock turbo, and 12.7 at 110 on the 14b. I was hardly modded at the time. More modded I went to a 16g and ran 12.0 at 114. So you can see most of my improvement was not in power, but in launching. 2gs will run mid 12s no problem on a decent car with good driver. There is hardly a difference between the small and big 16g. Not worth fussing over, but now the price difference is small, so why not go big. But now that the EVO 16g is out, go for that if you want something smaller than a 20g. People are getting 40 lbs/min flow out of that turbo, which is damn near impossible to do on a big or small 16g. I got 38 lbs out of mine, but after wiring the WG shut I got 39.9. On that note, dont go with a larger flapper. It WILL blow open if you try to run high boost. Search dsm tooners for a thread titled "WG blowing open info" using my same user name I have here for details.
So the short version is EVOIII 16g, and SBR has a good deal on them (579 shipped). Get the RRE hacker tweaker kit, or just the J and L pipe and oil feed line. File out the bolt holes in the drain line so the 2g drain can be kept. Swap the front and rear 2g water lines, bend slightly, and drive it on. ~150-200 bucks for the install.
Stay away from the oddball wheels like 17c, 18g, 19c, etc. They have yet to run as fast as the 16gs (both big and small are at 11.5 I believe). Also, dont bother with the "super," "killer," etc turbos. They rarely stack up. A new interesting option that I wish I could run on my car to get some data is the SBR 2g 20g. A 20g that doesnt require the J and L pipes, just the lines. I dont know whats its run for times yet, but its an intersting option none the less.

big 16g or 18g, 20g is too big and u'll have lots of lag. get Greddy T78 Turbo!! lol, that would be cool :grinno: i kno im gettin a polished big 16g, i want my dsm to be a 10-11 second street legal-daily-driven street roadster. :iceslolan

TDO5 20Gs get full boost (28-29 psi) by ~3500 rpm. Not much laggier than a 16g. ;) Even my TDO6H 20g used to get full boost by 3800. I dont call that lag at all. My current turbo gets 25 psi by 4400, that feels a bit more sluggish. But when boost hits and I dyno 400 whp on pump gas at 25 psi, its all worth it. DOnt cry about lag, downshift. A 16g will never get you to 10s, and few people have run 11s on them. And this is race gas, never mind street gas ;) 18g has never done well compared to 16g, and greedy turbos are overpriced. But for all I know your whole post was a joke, since it doesnt make a lot of sense ;)

Do you have an Eclipse or any turbo car for that matter? Please don't give us an opinion that you've heard from other people. My boy Jay has a Big16g on his mildly modded 90 Tsi AWD. There is no lag. With the right supporting mods it will spool quick as the stock turbo.

I appreciate your and everyone's advice and knowlege bro. I think im going to head to dsmtuners and buy a mans rebuilt 14b. Hopefully my upper/lower IC pipings make spool up just as fast as the t25. Also got a mini front mount for $300 from a dsm tuner here locally. Well once I get em Ill show some good engine pics along with my front mount( gunna chrome it first( I know its kinda lame but just looks evil). Just curious if one of you would start an engine pic thread. Would like to check some of em out. Thanks and have a good weekend..!!!

Dont chrome your fmic, it will look good but wont be as effective. Then again, are you going for looks or speed?

Alittle of both. My car is heavy out of the box so cant get to fast. Also with the fwd kinda a factor as well. But I do have the stock rims with 90% tread with sticky ass faulkons for track purposes. Will get into the 13's soon with the upgrade and a dyno tune session here in a few weeks.

You migh notice some lag with the 14B, but the T25 doesnt havy any at all. You'll be happy with the 14B you'll be able to crank it up and make decent power.

Oh, sorry bouts that, i wasnt thinkin about the supporting mods that couldn't lead to lag. i kno. Oh yeah, i dont have a car yet, so i may look like im jus talkin like i have one, but i dont. (damn) oh well.

Heavy isnt that big a deal, youve been listening to honda boys too much. Light cars generally have a smaller engine that cant produce power as easily. My car weighs in at just over 3800 lbs. Every ricer things im too heavy to be fast, not true at all.
