Is there anyway to bypass the automatic door lock feature that locks when you reach a certain speed on a 1999 Silverado?
Thanks

Come on guys, help me out here. This has to be the most annoying thing to get locked in your vechile everytime you go somewhere and having to manually unlock the doors to get out.

yup there is, read it in your owners manual. (sorry i'm a lazy ass) I did if for my dad in his 99' Silverado. Don't remember how exacly, cuz it was a couple years back, but I think its some weird opperation like "ignition off, hold down lock button, turn ignition on, push down break pedal, bark like a dog, turn ignition off. I know, its annoying! The 2000 Chevys were fixed and they unlock when you pull the key out of the ignition. sorry I can't help more. Research dude, Good Luck

He lies the problem...You don't always get a owners manual when you buy a used truck. As far as "research" and you'll find the answer. That's exactly what I'm doing posting these messages. This is a forum where you are suppose to be able to get help with problems like these.
Thanks, JakeDrummer for at least trying. Maybe someone out there will have a manual laying around somewhere.

I bought my Silverado used and the dealer was kind enough to throw in a users manual... only it was for the C/K series with the old body style. It doesn't even mention my 5.3L engine.
I am also interested in disabling this feature.
Thanks

I just purchased a used 99 chevy, the automatic locks drove me nuts and within 3 days i was at the dealership. they downloaded the computer settings from my pickup, changed that setting and uploaded it back to the pickup's computer. charged me ten bucks, much cheaper than accidentally ripping a door handle off.

I just looked in my manual for a 99 Z71, and all it says is "The automatic door locks can be disabled, for more assistance, contact your dealer." Lots of help the manual was...all the dealers want me more of my hard earned $$$$

unfortunately, without the dealer to change the programming, your on your own on a 99 chev silverado. They changed the program in 2000 so you can have it lock at 15, lock at 15 and unlock when key is out and a couple different options. I of course diabled it. My brother and I ripped off his door panel on his 99 and attached a little piece of metal junk to the metal bar connecting the door handle to the the locking device. When you pull up on the handle, it unlocks the door. We couldn't quite perfect it, so you lift once to unlock and lift twice to open the door. That or the ten buck is your solution.
