Can anyone tell me how to find the supposed TSB on the 4.3 vibration/rattle?

This piece of crap is going to vibrate apart soon and the dealer says it's normal V-6 stuff.

About ready to plant it back in the showroom, the hard way.

I have a 97 Silverado with a 4.3 myself. I have been fighting a vibration problem for that past year. I hce spent money out the yazoo. Rims, tires, rotors, rear drums ect... I was about to dump this thing in the bayou. It was vibrating so much I could have made a chocolate mike comerical. The problem was the balance of the wheels. Find a tire delear that has a Hunter GSP 9700. This machine finds the high spot of the rim, then the tire. The assembly is separated and the high spots are set oppsite of each other. Once the tire is back on the machine a cylinder is lowered onto the tire to simulate the tire being on teh vehicle and road. Then the tire is balanced. You can search the web for the sight. I forgot the name of the official sight but search for either Vibration Control System or Hunter GSP 9700. I hope this fixes your problem.

The last time I checked a 4.3 goes under the hood, so what does an engine vibration have to do with a
tire vibration that will only happen usually at a given
tire rpm??????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????

Sorry to be so hard on the last poster {dehms}, but when someone requests a TSB for an engine vibration & you get a responce like balance your tires or check the washer fluid, come on!!!!
You can get that info from Autozone.

Thanks,

Turns out that the vibration is wha I have been telling the dealer all along, from the freaking exhaust. I found a TSB on a local repair shop's computer( All Data) and embarrassed my dealer into ordering the service kit to install.

I'll post when I actually see what the kit consists of, but I believe it is either a flex pipe or an isolating flange of some type.

As for the tire vibration, thanks there also. This piece of crap has been back 3 times for the lousy highway ride and the last time, the dealer balanced and rotated the tires which helped somewhat. Armed with the info on the balance machine, I'll follow and see what my dealer has.

I have a MGA that doesn't ride a whole lot worse than this Silverado, and the MG has an odd fire V-6 that is smoother than the 4.3.

It's early( 6000 miles) but so far I can not recommend this truck to anyone. I hope after ironing out these problems, I can stop hearing I told you so's from my Ford friends.

Between this truck and being a Red Sox fan, I'm *%#@& ed

This bulletin is being revised to clarify warranty description information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-06-01-024 (Section 06 -- Engine/Propulsion System).

Condition
Some customers may comment on a rattle-type noise coming from the engine at approximately 1800 to 2200 RPMs.

Cause
The spark, rattle-type noise may be caused by torsional vibration of the balance shaft.

Correction
If detonation noise is present , perform detonation/spark knock diagnostics first.

Install a new tensioner assembly kit using the procedure below.

Remove the engine front cover. Refer to SI for engine front cover removal procedure.
Remove the crankshaft sensor reluctor ring and line up the timing marks on the crank gear and cam shaft gear.
Remove the camshaft gear and chain. For model years 1996-1998, remove the crankshaft sprocket using J 5825-A.
Pull the shipping pin and discard. Remove the nylon timing chain tensioner blade from the timing chain tensioner bracket.
Position the bracket on the front of the engine. The upper two attaching holes of the bracket will line up with the center two engine front cover bolt holes. The lower bracket holes will line up with the engine front cover alignment holes.

Use a hammer and the J 46165 Pin Driver to install the dowel pins through the two lower holes in the bracket and into the engine block. Make sure that the bracket is held firmly in place before proceeding.
For model years 1996-1998, install a roller-type timing chain set. Install the crankshaft sprocket using the J 5590 Crankshaft Gear Installer.
Install the timing chain around the crankshaft sprocket and position the timing chain to the driver's side of the engine.

Install the nylon timing chain tensioner guide onto the timing chain tensioner bracket pin and position the top of the guide under the tab at the top of the bracket.
Install the camshaft sprocket into the chain and then to the camshaft. Install the bolts finger-tight. Make sure the timing marks are aligned, then tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt. Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

Install the crankshaft reluctor ring.

Install the engine front cover and place a washer under the two center cover bolts that extend through the tensioner bracket. These washers are required to maintain the proper crush on the engine front cover seal. Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
