I am thinking of the QX4 (used) as my next vehicle. Any idea what years are more reliable than others? Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I finally purchased a QX4 after years of dreaming. I know them inside and out. Pre 2001's were great except for the engine, which was an under powered 180hp which the vehicle struggled with and the engine rattles under strain. Do NOT purchase before 2001, you won't be happy with the low powered engine. Find a nice 2001-2003. The quality and reliability is outstanding on them. You will notice everything fits, looks and feels top quality. The engine is very smooth and quiet. Transmission shifts almost unnoticed. Interior is exceptionally quiet.

The Bose sound system has superb sound quality and has good power. The CD Changer (at least on 2003) also plays MP3's.

The very rare Navigation system which I have, is unbelievable. The Infiniti unique "Birdseye View" shows streets miles away and is very easy to read. This is hard to find and usually increases the cost of the vehicle you are trying to buy and a lot of people want the NAV system.

Options to consider: Tow package is nice. I throw my hitch bike rack on there and go. Wood Steering wheel, Premium pkg pre 2003, std 2003 is a great luxury touch.

4x4 or 4x2 is another option. Will you ever use the 4x4? Expect to pay an extra 1,000-2,000 more for the 4x4 option. It is a great system if you use it. Set to AUTO and the system only uses 4x4 when it needs to.

Heated Seats: A useless option, well in CA anyway. Even when its cold I don't use them. It just seems to me that it can't be good for the leather.

Hope this helps,

Jim
