first 'teg drives

The last two days i've gone on two integra LS test drives. one was a '94 LS in imaculant condition, you just wouldnt beleive how good condition it's in. it has 115k miles on it but 95% freeway, the guy bought it in his 50's to commute from his house to airport (he was a pilot) -- he was the first owner. It runs great got a timing belt at 90k miles. tires have 8000 miles on them, new clutch 2 years ago (pilot bearing went out?), alloys, nice stereo, the paint looks brand new, shifts are precise (although I had too much respect for the car to get upwards of 5k on a test drive), also comes with snow tires (steel rims and hub caps). the asking price is 8300, im just curious what you guys think of that... it seems very legit even though thats a couple more than blue book value. The other car didnt look too great though. it was a '96 with 76k miles on it. the guy was advertising it as an SE, but it didnt even have leather or alloys. the paint was chippping away everywhere, windshield was cracked, hand break looked like it was knawed on by a dog or something, and the primary driver was a women (no offense but for the most part that's bad... going by what i've seen /heard). I have to say the car really got up and went though. we got it warmed up and being used to driving an accord (torquier car) i'm not used to brinign the rpms above 3500. so im cruisin along in 2nd and hit 3500rpm and im thinkin this car's power isn't too bad... not great like i've heard, but not bad. then i figure what the hell, it doesnt redline until 7600ish. so slowly bring it up to about 5 grand and then the car just started to take off, it was awesome. next think i know i'm in 3rd gear doing 85mph in a 45. on the way back to the guys house i almost missed the turn and decided to take it (normal |- type crossroad at 45mph) tires squeeked a little but you wouldn't even know you just took at turn that fast. im very impressed with these cars, i'm buying one ASAP! and ill post pictures too hehe :)

1994 Acura Integra
Coupe 3D LS
115,000 miles
Low Retail Average Retail High Retail
Base Price $4,300 $5,450 $6,275
Mileage Adjustment
115,000 miles add: $0 $0 $0
Certification and Extended Warranties
Total Price $4,300 $5,450 $6,275
The $6,275 is the HIGHEST of the two (KBB and NADA) in my area print it off for your area and take it to him figure out what you want to give and get the integ, but if he won't meet nada's price of $6,275 he like the car to much. Don't over pay. If your wanting an opinion of a shop find a place locally that only works on foreign cars or take it to your dealer for honda/acura and ask them what they think it's worth. He'll come down on the price and if not... There are other integs out there :D

ok, so take the highest blue book value right? 6,275.. Add snow tires, 10cd changer, stereo system, 240w amp and that it has a new battery, brakes, clutch, timing belt, and piece of mind that it hasnt been raced around by some 17 y/o every weekend and you guys dont think it's worth 8,300? I"ive never bought a car before so im pretty new at it all.

Think of it this way...
The car has to have tires he chose snow tire probably for obvious reasons (not sure where your located). The integ would do better with performance tires (not in snow but on a daily basis) and they would be the same price if not more. So don't use that to up the price at all. 10cd changer, stereo, amp...lets say it's high end $150 - 200 for cd changer, $250 for stereo, and $240 for the amp your adding $700 NEW it's used so $300. All the new stuff. It's routine maintenance every car has to have it so no biggie. Take it to a reputable shop in town. We have Sharp's here they charged me $60 to check my teg over when I was thinking of buying it...took them over an hour but they looked it over good. Have someone do the same for you a local Honda/Acura dealer should be able to do it. Don't screw yourself, I mean I can tell you my 90 teg has never seen over 80 :D I'm assuming your going off this guys word and that you've most likely never talked with him previously to get to know him at all (basically the only things you've talked to him about is the car). So don't tell him he's lying but take the car someplace if he wants to sell it he won't have a problem with it. It may cost you $50 but you'll have peace of mind. Also at the end of the "checkup" at the dealer ship tell them what he's asking then print off a price from kbb and nadaguides.com take those with you tell them your thinking of offering $6400 (because of the stereo). See what they say. Take it to someone who knows the cars and works on them day after day they shouldn't mind helping you most of them will hope to have your business if you ever need anything done. and the 95% highway miles may only be 25% the mileage guage only shows miles what type of miles so don't believe everything the guy tells you. Just take it to someone and see what they say.

thanks jared... also it comes with EXTRA snow tiers. it has performance tires on them (as he says less than 8000 miles -- they look and drive like new tire) another thing that im taking into account is that im not going to be able to fin anything in this good of shape around here.im thinking about offering 7500/7700 and taking it from there.
edit: another reason im not too worried about the mileage is that he's about 10 miles form the nearest corner store and 15 miles from about anything

Ok, here's the deal I've owned 6 cars since I was 16 (19 now) bought new cars cause I wanted a different car and the 2 of them were because of wrecks. The one thing that I have learned is that there isn't any need to over pay. Take it some place ask them what they think it's worth. Tell them all that you've told us and go from there offer him 6800 and go from there I don't think you should give more than $7200 though. Also do the snow tires have their own rims? If not then you'll have the expense of mounting them and mounting the performance at each seasons change.

yeah the snow tires have their own rims, and hub caps. the performance tires have alloys. im gonna see if he has hte records for everything too. also, do you guys know specific things with this gen integra to look for?

Have a 2nd gen so not sure on yours...That's why I can't stress enough to take it someplace like the dealership the mechanic will check it over and they work on them all the time so they know what goes out. It might cost you $50 but it may save you from being locked on a car that's about to have the rack & pinion go out or something like that.

That's way too much money if you ask me. Here's what I got for $3700
95 LS
a few blemishes on the outside, mint inside
needed exhaust work
needed tires
it had an okay stereo, cd changer, and cell phone (not that I left any of that crap in there)
You're paying more than double, is that worth it? I spent around six weeks looking all over the internet and where ever it was worth driving to. Don't rush into anything and you won't regret it.
