If you had recently aquired a Chevy Big Block 454 ci, what classic car would you drop it into(reasonable car)?

Well, whatever I thought was a cool looking car... a big block will bolt into just about any classic chevy with out much hassle.

Well if you wanted to be nestalgic, you research all the muscle cars and see which ones generally had big blocks, or which ones ppl dropped them in..... Just like my old man putting a 4 bolt magnum 350 SB in his '79 Z28, apparently that was the engine a lot of them had that year...... If i had one though, i would put it in either a '66 Nova, or a '69 Camaro SS even though they should have a 427 in them..Maybe even a '72 Chevelle SS *drooling* :evillol:

Me, I put it in a Vega. The early mini 70 camaro ones. That would be fast, fast car.

Ugh :disappoin
You're thinking the LS6 from the Z06 Corvette... that has 405hp.
He's talking about the LS6 454 that was in production from '70 to '71 that made 450 underated horsepower.
Hmmm... I think you mean a Monte Carlo with a bed.
Ugh x 2 :disappoin
No, he was right. Monte Carlo didn't start production untill 1970. The El Camino had been in production since 1959 which was originally based off the Impala. Than there was a three year break in production between '61-'63. When the El Camino was reintroduced in 1964 it was based off of the Chevelle chassis. And used it's front clip and powertrain.

Also, Z28Josh, the SS Camaros of 1969 DID NOT have 427's. They had 396's. The 427 Camaros were COPO cars (Central Office Production Order) that you could only get through certain dealers. The COPO cars were from Dana, Nickey, Yenko, and Baldwin-Motion Chevrolet, as well as the ultra-limited production drag-only ZL-1 Camaros.
It's not that hard to read up on this sort of thing.

I only remembered the El-Caminos when they were Monte's. I guess those were the only ones I liked. My apologies!

You're thinking of the terrible years of Automotive history... at least for American automotive history... the mid to late 70's thru the mid 80's... Very few cars from that era were cool. I believe in like '77 the El Camino switched to the Monte Carlo/Malibu/Caprice chassis. Or something like that... those particular years I don't know a huge amount on.

Read my post, i said "the 427 belonged in the camaro" not that all of them came with them. Do you think i would post about it if i didn't know what i was talking about. Jerk.....Tell me i need to research, probably what you did before you posted

A 454 could go into an classic chevy. As for me, although a Nova would be insanely fast, I would go for a classic 1970 Chevelle.

New here and not sure message is in right place, but I was following the El Camino discussion and wanted to add some things.I do believe the first ones were based on the Impalas. After that they were based on the Chevelle station wagon. The monte carlo front bumpers were nearly identical-closer than Chevelles.but they weren't based on monte carlos. The Chevelle station wagon front clip part #s are the same as el camino....chevelle isn't.Chevelle front clip will fit but not exact. There's a small diff in length and some trim lines. The station wagon tail lites are the same and I believe rear bumper......There's a plate behind the cab in the bed that's bolted in almost to the wheel wells that's where the back seat goes on the wagon. It's a wagon frame and body with a few mods.I owned a 70 for over 20 yrs and learned a lot of useless info. The rare one in is the GMC Sprint which is the same-just a lot less made.If I had it to do over-it would get the 454.BTW the 454 Vega is fast and spooky, friend built one,it was..........fun.Just a few thoughts.....oh.... and hi everyone!

Yeah, I had to research basic GM corporate history. Me, the guy who can tell a Bizzarini from an Iso. I've only spent my life compiling data on ALL performance machines, learning the sublties of marques long since past.
I doubt you've ever even heard of a Facel Vega, let alone know that what drove the Facel company under was the desire to move away from using Chrysler V-8's and instead use their own French developed power.
How about this? What were Enzo Ferrari's other life's ambitions? Bet you didn't know that he wanted to become a journalist (which is why he personally wrote the Scuderia company newsletter) and to become a singer.
I stand corrected that I misread your statement, but DO NOT challenge what I know when it comes to automobile trivia. I haven't spent a (admittedly short) lifetime as a sports car historian for someone to tell me that I couldn't say off the top of my head that 427 Camaros were all special order.
