I am wondering what the proclaimed hp at the flywheel on a late model C5 Vette is.

Once I get a few answers I will make more sence of this thread.

did you race one and lose?

well the stock C5 is rated at 350hp but i'm not sure about the flywheel tq. but the number should be very very similar to the hp.

A base model C5 is something like 345hp and 350 tq, why? A Z06 is rated at either 385 or 405 hp depending on the year...

No I've not raced one, YET. Want to though :)

The reason I asked this is one came into Torque Performance for some tuning. As it rolled in not so good tune it produced 220kw (295hp) at the wheels.
It's got a rather large set of cams, intake mods, headers, bigger injectors, and host of other bits done to it. I wasn't too impressed at first.
I came back to drop my GTR off for some work and the car was on its way out. I chatted with my tuner and he got the thing making 289kw (387hp) at the wheels through timing and fuel! That is a fair bit of wack. From what I can tell by the loses it puts it up to just under 500hp. Not a bad increase.

The guy took off showing the power but all he did was wheel spin to africa. I would love to have a go with this guy on the strip one day, but on the open road I think he has a bit more than I can take right now. Once the new turbos and injectors are in and retune different story.

I guess all in all the hp rating would be pretty close from factory considering the poor state of tune when it came in with those mods.

so your telling me from a roll on a the highway taht car with that much less power then you might beat you? i don't see how that is possible. i mean the C5 vette isn't that much lighter then you. they're around 200lbs lighter, and its more sleek. but you got around another 100hp on him. i think that more then makes up for it.

I suggest you re-read Razor's last post again...;)

i'm alittle confused about this part of his post.

If I understand it correctly I think the guy is saying he has 500hp in which case he would have more power than Razor (450hp)

I think he means out in the streets, where he might be racing him from a roll, or top-end...since the guy is making similar HP as him in a lighter car with less drivetrain losses.

On a track, however, he ain't worried...he has this AWD thing, you see...;)...which will probably give him enough of a head-start in a quarter-mile, that he'll get to the finish quicker, despite his other disdvantages.

my pops has a c5 vette, and we were told that they actually have about 275hp at the wheels and 345bhp. do you have a skyline or somethin?

I don't have the numbers off hand, but stop in at www.corvetteforums.com (http://www.corvetteforums.com) and they'll have the info for you. Those C5s are pretty strong at all speeds. Considering the mods you currently have, I think you'd be able to hang with a stock one pretty easily.

yeah, unless its a Z06 with 450hp in a skyline, you should actually IMO easily be able to beat him from jump or from a roll. i know the power of the vette and actually raced 2 before lost one and won one.
the win was after i was modded

If you have a C5 that's makeing 275 at the wheels, you have a dud, take it back...

how much actuall rwhp does it have, cause 275 is what i was told of estimate. i know it has 345bhp.

Most LS1's are underrated. Any C5 should be making around 350 hp, or around 305-315 at the wheels. I've not done anything big to my car hp-wise, and I'm at 307 rwhp, or 353 flywheel horsepower assuming a 15% drivetrain loss due to the manual transmission.

Ok to clear a bit up.

After the C5 was properly tuned it made 289kw or 387hp at the wheels. My GTR makes now 266kw or 356hp at the wheels. The C5 isn't lighter, or if it is it would be sweet F/A. Both cars would have to be around the 3,200 lb mark. So given it has a much less drag co-effiecent than my GTR at the top end he would pull away, less wind resistance. How ever in saying that I would take him in a 1/4 drag race as I would make up for that 30hp difference with the launch advantage.
I am normally in the high 1.6's 60 foot time and have run a flat 12. That was also before my intercooler change and last tuning.

It would be very close from a rolling start of say 100km or 62mph to say 240km or 149mph.
