Ok so I just got a 200 SVT and I'm really excited it's my 2nd car my first was an 89 Firebird and it's totally blown away by the SVT. My first question is what should I do!?!? I'm really suprised about how little aftermarket there is for the contour SVT. I wanna start with bolt-ons like CAI, TB MAF, headers, exhaust and then run somethin like a 75-100 shot through it. Is there a nice website that I can find for these parts.? Also what I hear the cougar has the same engine, will the cougars bolt-ons fit on out SVT's? what year cougars have the same engines?

well, what kind of money are you looking to spend?

i wouldnt do a cold air intake, because the intake ends up sitting right by the transmission and radiator which produces a lot of heat. Id just get a 7" K&N which seems to yield the best results for the contour. Do not upgrade the size of your TB. A larger TB has actually been dyno proven to lose about 4 hp on a contour. Only optimize the one you have. By this i mean, polish the inside, flush mount screws, taper the throttle body plate inside so the transition for the air is smooth. Id skip the MAF too since there is no way the the shop thats selling you the MAF can calibrate it for your air/fuel ratio. If you do buy this, get some dyno time and have the place burn you a chip. Thats the best way. One set of headers for the contour made by MSDS. Visit their website at www.msdsinc.com. They are about $600 which includes a high flow y pipe. Tons of catback kits made for the contour. Bassani, Borla, Tru-Bendz, Yo-dude, Bosal, etc. Id recommend just going a custom route and get a set of 2.25" set of true duals from the headers back. Street Flight makes a turbo kit and Vortech makes a supercharger for the contour/cougar. Also, many have chosen to do a 3.0L motor swap from the Taurus. I'm currently in the build up of a 3.0L swap and the Street Flight turbo kit.

Yes, the cougar does also use the same 2.5L DOHC 24 valve engine, except the svt motor does differ in cams, TB, extrude honed upper intake manifold and larger port lower intake manifold, extrude honed heads, and a 10:1 compression ratio (10.25:1 on the 2000 models). Thats just to name a few differences. Yes, they are basically the same motor, just a few tweeked differences here and there. Catbacks for the cougar WILL NOT fit the contour. But seeing that they make plenty of catbacks for the contour, that wont be an issue. I believe the cougar engines were the same from like 99-02 or something like that.

Your best contour source is www.contour.org. Click on forums once your at the home page. Everything you could possibly imagine from group buys, contour meets, problem fixes, modifications, etc. A bunch of the MI guys are heading out to lansing MI to VT Performance for a dyno day on the 25th of October. I dont know where your from but if your close, you outta check it out.

intake problems... since when?

only thing you really need to watch out for is the cam driven waterpump. The plastic impellar usually breaks around 70K or so. If you already havent upgraded, upgrade to the metal impellar waterpump. Price is about $70.

Why is there soooo little aftermarket for the Contour SVT? I mean I can't find anything, sho shop seems to be the only one but with no other competition there is no price contender.

What do I need to upgrade in the car if I use nitrous. I am planning on spraying 75-100 shot what do I need to upgrade? Also what kind of gains would I get if I put the vortech s/c on a stock contour svt?

dont even mess with slo shop. customer service is horrible and many poeple have been screwed over and havent gotten their parts. id recommend www.spmotorsports.com, www.batinc.net, www.ctamotorsports.com....basically just go to here http://www.contour.org/links/ and scroll on down to company pages and it will give you numerous links of companys that sell aftermarket parts.

as for the nitrous kit, youll wanna upgrade injectors and fuel pump at the least. check out the forced induction branch over on forums on www.contour.org. everything you possibly would want to know is over there.

typical gains of the vortech on the svt is about 265 fwhp, 205 fwtq. So about 100 hp gain over stock and 55 tq. Pretty pitiful if you ask me, especially the torque. Gains on a stock svt for the turbo are 292 fwhp and 275 fwtq. Buy the turbo, nuff said.
