No spark?

Just picked up a 1990 240sx with 117kmi on it for $200. I'm not getting any spark coming from the coil. I have replaced the coil and still no spark. As a side note the tach does not move when i crank the engine. everything looks ok up until the coil. I was told it could be the power transistor. I've spent a lot of time on it but I'm stumped. Anyone have any suggestions?

take out piston #1's spark plug wire and hold the end that connects to the spark plug close to something metal, the valve cover for example. have someone crank the engine. check to see if theres spark jumping the gap from the wire to the valve cover.
