Hi,
Im usually not the type that likes to chirp gears in my car.
But today I was in da mood and I chirped 2nd gear.
Got up to just as it hit redline and jammed it into gear chirping 2nd gear.
It is the only gear I can succesfully chirp with the D15.
My question is is it bad for your car?
I know when u drag race u pretty much have to chirp.
some poeple told me it is bad some told me its ok if u dont do it too much.

any driving hard is not necessarily good for your car, so in theory, this isn't good for your car and can wear it down much faster if you do this a lot. Of course I drive my car like this every day and it went a long time without anything wrong with it, then the axle assembly started going out and it ended up breaking a lot of shit. This probably wouldn't have happened if I would drive my car properly.

It messes up the synchros (spelling?) in the trans, and will wear the gears. The synchros make the gears spin at the same speeds when they come together, so they align right. By doing that, you are putting alot more strain on them and the gears, and eventually, its gonna break.

Right on. I'm driving the snot out of my CRX, but that's just because my swap is coming soon...let's just pray all goes well!!

:bs: What are the mods? B/c it takes alot of torque to chirp 5th and I know that you did not do it with the D15.

I think the only way you could get any sort of chirp out of it would be to have it in 5th, already rolling, rev it up to the redline, and dump the clutch....even then, I doubt it, there's just not enough torque, and I think you'll find that in most cars.

HAHA.. You chirped 5th with those mods? What, on spares in the snow?
Who's gonna buy that? I can't even chirp 4th in my car and I'm making considerably more power than you.

Man give it up my integra with all my mods and a 75hp shot of nitrous (wet kit at that) will only chirp 3rd. And I know that I am making at least twice the hp and trq you are.

And how fast is your car running at the higher end of 4th gear? You have enough power to break the tires loose and chirp them going that fast? That's real power, guys.

I can bust my tires loose with a SOCH ZC in 3rd gear - chirp or dump clutch. DRY PAVEMENT - Cruising @ 50mph in 3rd gear - press clutch/redline - dump clutch & man she rips 'em pretty damn good for 1.6L 4 banger :eek7:
None of that stuff is good for your trans - it was designed to be shifted smoothly & not jammed into a gear. I dont care because I can rebuilt trans for $300, the more I buy the cheapier they become :screwy:
5th gear is over-drive, thats all I have to say about that. :loser:
How to make your car chirp every time? Hold the gas pedal to the floor while shifting. Whats happens when your tires chirp? You go slower because the tire is loosing traction.

There's so many different conditions that affect things, so it's not a guaranteed thing, unless you have the power to do it with ease. If it's barely doing it, and only sometimes, then you don't have the power to do it at will. Different conditions that could affect when it does it is the road, the temperature, crap on the road (dirt, liquids), and so on....

i think how he chirped all those gears was having the stage three clutch, if you have a really grabby clutch and just let it out, then yeah it'd probably let you chirp more than with a stock clutch

i think alot of you are missing the point...
chirping gears doesn't necessarily reflect power or torque figures. For example...I have a clutch masters stage 2 clutch on my nearly stock d16a6, and I scream 2nd gear and chirp both tires in 3rd. My car has 173,000 miles on it, and while it runs well....its by no means a track terror.
I think chirping gears is something caused by quick clutch engagement, and well executed shifting. Mind you, I'm not shifting at redline....Im driving my car correctly. I think that the more power you have, the larger the likelyhood of chirping your tires upon shifting is. But If you have an large amount of power, you want to keep your tires planted as much as possible. Theres a difference between chirping..and a burnout. :naughty:

I have went thru many sets of half shafts on my CRX from smoking the tires and chirping gears. It get's expensive on your fourth set so i stop doing it all the time. Plus i have a 215/40 tire foot print so it rips up axles. So somewhere in this post someone said they got a 5th gear chirp! I would like to see that. Are you running on the small spare tire that comes with the car. You know the little donut tire? 5th gear is a over drive ratio you can chirp it unless you have 300hp or a small tire with no foot print. You can chirp a D15 if you like there is not much power to rip up the axles and the tires are small

This is one of the silliest threads I've ever seen, which is why I feel the need to post in it.
No one here has ever chirped a GEAR.
The only things chirping are the TIRES...in one gear or another.
If you are indeed chirping gears, you've got a bird for a transmission and a brain.
Flunky
PS-My dad's 1969 Chevy El Camino with a 350 (5.7 litre) and a 4-speed tranny would chirp the tires going 90MPH. It had a 4-barrell carburetor, but the two big barrells would stick shut. When he'd shift from 3rd into 4th at 90 MPH, he'd stomp the gas pedal down. Those two big barrels would pop open, and it would go Rrt! at 90 MPH. THAT's a 'chirp'.
PPS-I don't even bother trying spin the wheels on my stock 90 LX. It just sounds tired and abused.

C'mon man chirping gears is an expression. I think everybody knows that the gears do not chirp. People just say chirping gears b/c it is shorter than saying that he chirped the tires in X gear. I think it is a little picky man. But then again I know there are alot of stupid people out there and they would deffinatly think that the gear is chirping
