4runner Transmission problem

I have a 1997 4runner that is having problems with the transmission. It is automatic transmission. When I put the car in reverse gear it pauses then kicks back in reverse. I need to know if anyone has any idea what it might be. I have been taking care of the car so far. The vehicle has 75,600 miles on it.

could be the tranny filter or you are low on tranny fluid..my guess

i have the same problem and i have 2 4runners, i say that you shouldnt worry, but then again, both cars may have something wrong!!!! although they have been like that since i have them, probably 5 or more years

check fluid level and condition also check and make sure rear axle seals are not leaking

Is this behavior different than normal? I mean, has it suddenly started doing this when the shift used to be smooth?
