Tamiya would do better to release some DIFFERENT F1 kits for a change, they have started out well with the FW24 now we need to see some more.
Up until the release of the FW24 kit I hadn't purchased anything since the MP4/13, I don't want to build one Ferrari after another.

C'mon Mr Tamiya, give us F1 modellers some VARIETY!

After the hyper-curved bodywork and tight positioning of the pieces in the F2002, I think that the Tamiya tool cutters would MUTINY if they had to work on the even more curvy and even more tightly packaged F2003GA.

C'mon, give the guys a break and set them to work tooling up a Ferrari 156F1 Sharknose so those of us who don't have a sinful amount of money can build one.

I think Tamiya have oversaturated the market with their Schumacher Ferrari's. They have the 310B, F2000 and F2001. If somebody really wants a GA there are resin versions available.

What I'd like to see (won't happen though) is Tamiya continue the path they started with the Honda RA272 and Lotus 25. A Brabham BT19, Eagle-Westlake or McLaren M7A would be most welcome. Doubt they'd sell well enough to justify the tooling costs though.

The five axis mill won't complain, which might be the best advangate of employing the CAD/CAM technology. :)

Being a Japanese, I wouldn't mind the BAR 005, but S27 is already announced the Japanese GP resin kit. The R23B would be also good, but AMD's going to release one in Nov. I don't know why I feel this way, but I don't think any car deserves a plastic kit this year, despite such a close competition this year.

If they're going to make a 2003 F1 car they should make the McLaren, they haven't done one in 5 years. Or even the renault, nice colour scheme surprisingly competitive.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Minardi for a change. Haven't really seen models of their cars, even in resin. I think Tamiya shouldn't have too much a prob with licensing.

How about this, when McLaren starts painting their cars the PROPER ORANGE then I say kit them.

They don't even have the kiwi anymore. What's the point?

McLaren is the company name, the Kiwi, if we're thinking of the same thing, is Bruce Mclaren's personal emblem, since there is no direct association between Mclaren motorsports and Bruce Mclaren, other than the name, how can they use his shield?

The only Mclaren that has been painted the 'proper orange' since Bruce's death was the MP4/13 test car, that I can recall anyhow.

What about Ferrari running the correct shade of red?

And while we're wishing, how about getting some completely Honda F1's, like in the '60s? And then race them under a Japanese team, paint it white with a red circle? That would be trick. Maybe we should all build a phantom formula cars?

The Kiwi was on all McLaren sports racing cars built during Bruce's life. It WAS the team/company emblem as McLaren was a New Zealand based team.

I like Willimo's idea. Phantom F1 cars in traditional international racing colors. It'd be a lot of fun, I'd think.

An orange McLaren is one of the things I asked for, the M7A is orange!

No, McLaren couldn't paint their cars orange nowdays. The viewers might get them confused with the 'orange' Ferraris!

As Ray said McLaren, on a couple of occasions have used an orange test livery before unveiling new sponsorship. Great idea, shows Ron Dennis has an appreciation for the team's history.

These days McLaren are a combination of British, German, French, Saudi Arabian, New Zealand (for Bruce) and god knows what else. If one were to use national colours, the scheme could be a bit of a mess!

I'd say the Kiwi was removed as a mark of respect for Bruce McLaren. I don't think Denny Hulme continued to use it on his Macs after Bruce died. Might be mistaken though. Besides it wasn't used on all McLarens, only those raced by the works team. A bit like the Scuderia Ferrari shield, except that has gone in the reverse direction and been prostituted out on all manner of non racing machines.

Why can't we have a MP4/17D?

I agree, the best looking car this year. Don't think there is a hope in hell of Tamiya kitting it, they have even let the MP4/13 go out of production! Good thing I have several kits in my stash (and decals for an orange one!). Also since the livery is largely the same as the MP4/13 the the casual F1 fan (who would buy the majority of the kits) probably wouldn't notice the difference anyway.

Then again why did Tamiya do back to back Ferraris? They didn't even wait for the Vodafone sponsorship.

Tamiya didn't discontinue their McLaren kit. The greedy McLaren lawyers did.

Anyway, here's my F2003-GA by AMD in-progress.

True, which I guess explains in part the plethora of Ferraris, best to use the lisence while Tamiya have paid good money for it. I guess the McLarens will be back when the price of old kits starts going through the roof on eBay and Tamiya can appease the relevant beancounters with some more graft.

Which kit is the GA, Studio 27 or AMD? Looks great so far but needs to be more orange :)

Does that kit have an engine? I'd quite happily get it if it did but from what i've seen it doesn't.

And like I said before, there is no direct link between the modern Mclaren F1 team and Bruce Mclaren's racing team, the emblem was used by Bruce Mclaren's racing team.
You said it yourself, Mclaren WAS a NZ based team, they are no longer a NZ based team though.

As it stands, I have only seen one Mclaren F1 GT which bears the Kiwi on the badge, that is the car owned by the Mclaren family which was given to the family by Mclaren Motorsports.

Being a McLaren 'Mercedes' I guess they are torn between the traditional Orange of McLaren or the traditional Silver of Mercedes.
Personally I would like a model of the Jaguar. Go Mark Webber!

Same here....although I am a loyal fan of Schumi, but I have to admit that Kimi and Alonso is the nest big gun.

I'm applying decals to the body.
What happened was that I moved from Wichita Kansas to Houston Texas last fall. So, the model had to be packed in a box for a while. Plus, I lost the decal sheet (Doh!) and had to wait for another sheet from AMD.
Still, I resumed making it, and now I'm struggling to lay these firm AMD decals down. ;) (Solva Set has no efffect.)

I'm with Robrex too on this one. The Jag and the Minardi. Didn't Revell Germany do the Toyota?
