The temp control dial for the heat and A/C will not vary the temperature of the ventilation air regardless if in A/C or regular heat mode. It always blows hot, regardless of dial position. I have already replaced the "switch" or dial unit for the temperature. Even when trying to just bring in outside air, it is always heated. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I just purchased a 1997 ranger with a 3.0. It has the same exact problem you described. I found receipts in the glove box where the former owner replaced the control valve and some sort of control module but it is still blowing hot air with every setting but AC max. Have you solved your problem? If so, what did you do?

I have a 97 Ranger 4.0 and have the same problem of only hot air will blow out of the vents. I replaced the control for the temperature selector, and also the control for the mode (off, max a/c, a/c, heat, etc.) In the engine I checked that the climate control was getting vacuum from the main vacuum line (it connected to a black ball) I then checked the vacuum where it controls the valve for the hot water to enter the heater core (in front of blower motor) The hot water valve mixer seemed to work except for the temperature selector. If I moved the controll to no heat, no vaccum was present to shut off heat going into the heater core. I'm wondering if it is 1 of the vacuum controllers (there seems to be 2 of them). I have a Haynes manual but the section on cooling and heating is very poor.

The ford garage told me that there is a box that has a gate which is malfunctioning. They called it the "heater box". I'm not sure if it is or part of the heater core or not. It is actually in the shop today getting repaired. I hope this helps.

It seems Rangers have a big problem with this heater thing, my Ford had the same problem a while back. I took it to a shop and they replaced the gate that opens and closes the air vent. But it wasnt cheap

It does. There was an Explorer in the shop the same time as my ranger with the same problem. The service manager showed me the heater box and the drive coupler that turns the gate has a square opening and is plastic - it fractures right at the corners.

I was very lucky. The dealership replaced it for free since I just bought the truck. I would guess it costs about $800. He told me it takes 8 hours to install it.

I did this fix to my 98 Ranger. Took me about an hour and works great! I would read all the post and links before starting. Link to free blend door fix (http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=24962)
hope this helps.

i went to free blend door fix and it was a great solution----took about an hour and requires no special tools or talent----apparently there are hundreds of ford trucks out there with the same problem and i think the ford solution is to tear out the dash, replace the blender box, and charge you about $1000----please look at "free blender box fix"-----gary

Hey! I know this is an old post, but I am having the same problem with my 1998 Ford Ranger. Does anyone have a good link to the Link to the Free Blend Door Fix as described in the above post? I tried the link and it no longer works. Thanks for any help and advice...I'm about to go nutz over this Temperature Control thing :crying:
