Help needed with 1993 UK Maxima

Hi all,

As you can see this is my first post.

My dad has had his Maxima since new(1993) and has never had any problems with it, until now. He does not own a computer, hence the reason I am posting.

His Max' is back firing on acceleration, with an initial hesitation. Sometimes it back fires once, sometimes 2 or 3. It has just had a service by a non nissan garage and it has had new spark plugs included in its service. He is a bit sceptical as to whether to take it to Nissan just incase they charge his an arm and a leg, so as I am an owner of a Z32 ZX, I was wondering if I would be able to run a ECU diag check on it, in a similar way to how I do on mine. Which is to turn the diag' screw on the ecu. If so, where would I be able to get the info to do this and are there the errors codes documented anywhere? Also, does anyone know if the conZult that is used on the Z32, can also be used on the Max'. I.E, are the connectors the same.

From the searches I have done on here, the problem seems to point towards the coil packs or the CAS.

Would really appreciate any feedback and help.

Cheers
Cos

Hey Cos. I have a 98 Maxima, so I'm not totally sure how to check codes on a 93. On the 95 - 99 Maximas, the diagnostic screw is located behind the panel next to the gas pedal. Not sure if it would be on the same side of the car in a RHD model or not.

I believe I first learned of the diag screw location on the Maxima.org forum, check out this link and look for "how to" and "FAQ" threads under 3rd Gen's (89 - 94's)

Good luck!
