Im new to the 3000gt owners... Ive never had one and always wanted one so I started to look on ebay... I finally found a great deal on a 99.... Im just wondering what you guys think and what kind of mods I should get... Anyone know what kind of hp these GTs have to the flywheels. A lso the only thing i was a little disappointed in was the fact its an auto... How much is it to convert it? any info would be greatly appreciated....

not sure about the flywheel, but the 99 has 320hp, for a vr4 at least.

oh yeah and, as far as the mods, twin filter intake(better to get it from hks), stillen down pipe and profec b2 boost controller if your not yet getting bigger turbo's, but with the boost controler your gonna have to get a new clutch cause the power that the BC gives is more than you'll expect if its set up right, o'h and just in case i got a aftermarket BOV just to be safe.
if you fet a turbo upgrade and then do all this you'll be a monster.

youngvr4 - your a bit wrong about a few things there..
the 320 hp is at the flywheel as always.. due to the awd the wheel HP is only around 240 hp.
The twin HKS is a waste of money for two reasons :
1. You can get a K&N for like 60 $
2. Foam type filters suck ass. They don't filter as good as paper type (K&N) and don't flow as much air.
Then the stillen is only good if you dont like having a cat on your car (making it illegal)
And why not get a different boost controller if your not getting bigger turbos? wtf?
Your not going to have to get a new clutch until the stock one burns out... your not going to have anywhere near the power to make it slip when it is in good condition just from getting a boost controller...
Like in my case, you should probably get a BOV before you get a boost controller. My BOV started to leak with the minimal increase in pressure that my intake gave me (less than 1 psi) This is not bad for your car, it just gives you aboost leak.. which is bad for performance.

Oh another thing, VR-4's are NEVER auto unless they are converted to that, which I doubt anyone would ever do...
alll 94+ model VR-4's have a 6spd
And this one is the non turbo version: Either its a base model, or its the SL both of which are front wheel drive and have 161 hp (base) or 218 hp (SL)

i actually tried a k&n filter and i felt that the twin filter intake did a lot better in performance than the kn. and as far as the clutch my clutch was fine, and once i ran that boost controller along with everything else the clutch was just ripping, the power was burnin the hell out of it. actually i know another guy who had to do the same thing. and the guy at clutch docter actually showed me what was going on.
not only do i know another vr4 that that happend to. but i know an eclipse that the same thing happend to him also, BOV and profecb2
he had to replace his clutch 4 times before they found out the exact problem. and i was saying that if he's not gonna upgrade the turbos then he could do the following. other wise uprading the turbo is the best uprade to go with, along with some basic upgrades.
twin filter was just my opinion. i know another guy with a vr4 who went with a filter made for the eclipse, they had to make a few minor adjustments but he liked that one best.
and i don't know what your runnin with your BC but with all my minor uprades my 1/4mile time droped by almost 1 sec.

Yea and so your 1/4 time should. People have gotten a lot better times just by doing BPU upgrades.
But the stock clutch is well stronger than any power you would be making with your stock turbos. 1/4 mile time also doesn't really have anything to do with the power your putting out, but your driving skills. Unless you are a perfect driver everytime you went to the track, saying something like "my 1/4 went down by 1 second, so now my clutch is slipping" makes no sense. Talk to people on 3si that have over 400 hp and their stock replacement FINALLY couldn't hold up. If your clutch isnt slipping then leave it alone. It costs way too damn much to get a new one put in. So unless your going to do it yourself your going to shell out money for something that is not needed.

thats cool, he was asking an opinion and i gave him mine, there's a possibility that as a crazy coincidence, our clutches were going out any way, but like i said it was slipping! the guy showed it to me and told me what was happening, he said the power i'm producing is just twisting the hell out of the clutch. as far as the filters i believe you k&n is always top of the line, but from just my experience the twin filter has been working a little better.
everyone has there opinions when it comes to cars, i was just going of personal experience :smile:

youngvr4, you seriously dont sound like you know what your talking about. The stock clutch is holds very well, yours was probably old and abused. Your right about it not holding bpu, but thats only if you launch around 6k, I personally can launch better at 3-4k because the clutch doesnt slip, and it ends up holding better through the gears. The intake thing is a proven fact, you sound like a stuborn little kid "oh yeah, don't listen to me, get the k&n filter instead." Convince people you are right by supplying facts and numbers, not by saying it works better for you and throwing a tantrum.

no you just don't know my personality, i was serious when i said don't listen to me get the kn filter, i admitted that it probably did work better
