Hey man.
Moenie so praat van ons land man!

Luister, ek weet waarvan jy praat, maar dis want niemand bou modelle in Suid Afrika.

Back to English for the boards....

If you're trying to shop for kits at Reggies, you will get robbed, last time I was in Jo'Burg there was a great model shop in Sandton and if I recall right one in Eastgate (it's been a while)

Check out the import duties before ordering from hlj.com too, you know what the SA govt are like with taking money.

Another thing, R228 is about US$32, it's not much more than the cost in America(US$26), you're not comparing like prices when you're comparing over 2 different economies.

Oh yeah, where in Joeys are you? I'm from P.E

How much for a tin of Tamiya paint :eek7:
That is robbery man!

Check out what customs duties are on hobby stuff in SA, you would likely be better off buying from hlj or hobbysearch.

Ek is ook Engels, maar ek weet dat jy sal Afrikaans verstaan en ek wil net wys dat daar ander mense van SA hier is.
As it is, I don't get to talk Afrikaans much now as I live in the USA.

Check out Toksin, he's another ex-pat on here, he lives in NZ now.

Welcome to the World of Stupid Importers!

Here in Portugal is like that too... European country where???

Adding to that the costums have no rules, some times they charge half the price, sometimes the double! I don't know about kit's but other stuff is like that!

I pay less than half of what you do, but because I am earning $'s it isn't too bad to me at all.

Believe it or not, my Dad is an MD of a company in PE and I earn more than him as a engineer in the USA. :disappoin

Have you tried contacting your local model club?
If you are not sure where - give me a shout.

We tend to buy things together in one order and it saves on postage.
We definatley arn't paying R60 a bottle in PE.

I just wondered out of curiousity how much to send a box to S.A....damn, they want $34 (USD) to ship a 5-lb. package. Five pounds is about 3 kits, I'm guessing. If there is any specific kit you want, I could probably get it for you. Send me a PM and let's have a constructive talk. :naughty:

As a salesperson I earn more than my aunt as a teacher in SA. Gotta love the exchange rate.

That's what I thought, that's why the price really surprised me, then again, factor in the fact that he lives in Jhb, you know what Egoli is like.

Dude, you need to factor in customs too, SA customs are more like an extortion ring than a customs control, labelled as a gift or not, they will charge him for customs duty.
I had to stop sending my niece Christmas and Birthday gifts because of this.
