does anyone know what tire will work in sand or what i can do to avoid putting that peice of shit paddle tire back on? I moved from spokane wa. to winchester bay or. and there is no dirt around here within 100 miles. i have a 01 cr250 and a 03crf450, i still owe 7 grand between the two of them, and theres no way in hell i will sell them to get a quad. the sand here is tall and very loose, it feels like i have my front brake on all the time and i haven't been able to wheelie in two months. any ideas?

The tracks we rode on were clay/dirt but the creek beds that we would blast down were really sandy.
Dick Cepek used to make a tire called "Tera-Flex". If I remember correctly, I purchased my first one from a Sears catalog (can you believe that). Later on they designed a 2nd generation T.Flex, but I never could find one.
The specs called for the use of a 4.50X18 for a 250, and recogmended the 5.10X18 for the open bikes. I opted for the 5.10 (since my CR was heavily modded) and never regretted it. That baby would roost like no other tire that I have ever seen. Traction was amazing, lay it in a berm and go for the gusto--pin it full on, slip the clutch to keep it on the pipe, and wheelie through the corner w/confidence---

That tire also went White Sands in El Paso where we rode the dunes.
One thing I learned early on--Keep up the momentum, keep the power on, and always keep your weight to the rear--
Good luck,

I live in Fallon NV, I ride sand and dirt all the time. I use a meztler super soft terrain. It does great, in both.
