Well im gonna be trying to get my first car around January. Ive been set on buying an s13(coupe or hb doesnt matter) 240sx but the thing is i cant find one in my area for 2000 or under!! So i decided if i cant get a 240sx im gonna try to get an early 90's ford explorer. anyone got any info i should know about these SUV's? like reliability issues, things that break easy in em,you know. also i know this is the wrong forum but plz dont move it no one ever responds fast in the other forums. oh yeah if you have any ideas on a diff car i could i i need something reliable, easy to do work on if i have a service manual, good on gas, and low insurance. i like 2nd gen rx7's,late 80's gt stangs,90-93 accords, and early 90's celica's. but most of those i cant afford on in ok condition. thanks everyone, bye

I generally avoid Ford now because of their reputation for bad transmissions (i guess an SVX was a good choice huh?). I used to own a 1994 Mercury Cougar and that tranny gave me sooo much trouble...
So watch out for them Ford trannys and good luck with that 240 sx you want.

well if you want easy to work on you picked great cars gas wise id stray from teh explorer but ive heard of them pushing 1/4 million miles. me i love s13s great car to work on but teh accord would be really good for insureance and can fly with work great on gas too.

I have a 1991 Ford Explorer right now actually. Personally i have not had any problems with this car at all. I have about 135k miles on it, and it hasnt spent time in the shop in about 3 years besides normal maintenance. I happen to drive this car very hard. The 4.0L V6 puts out a surprising amount of torque and it will spin the tires quite easily when you are turning. I say, save your money for what you really want, but the explorer is not a bad car, especially if you want to put a kickass stereo in it, which i did. good luck either way

you had a 94 cougar. when did the body style change? wasn't it around there... maybe that's why. first year cars usually have issues.
that's also 10 years ago. you don't think they've made any changes since then?
maybe you should go to the 240/silvia forum's in the nissan section and ask opinions on what to look for, what models to buy, and where to get aftermarket parts.
maybe ask what other cars 240 owners considered when they bought their car, and why thought chose the 240.
