Wheel weights

Where can i find out the weights of various manufacturers wheels? I'm thinking about getting a set of 17x7" wheels after winter is over but i want to make sure i get the lightest wheels possible (while still remaining strong enough for street use and cheap enough for my budget). My two current favorites are the Konig Imagine's and the Konig Caffeine's. I have checked all over the web, Konig's site, and all the wheel dealer sites i can find. Nobody lists the weight of their wheels, it seems. Does anyone know what 17x7" versions of these wheels weigh? Is there a specific brand of light, quality wheels that i can get for <=$200 each? I really like the look of the Konig's, but don't want to add 40 more pounds to an already heavy car.

Konig wheels are heavy, on the order of 20-25 lbs each. The lightest 17 wheel in the world is a Racing Hart CP-035 is weighs in at a mere 7 lbs. As for inexpensive wheels that are light, good luck.

These guys have Racing Harts on SALE!!!! You could get them at the price you're looking for too. www.wheelmax.com They will have what you lookin for.

The links you guys posted all have great wheels, but the only one that listed a weight for the wheels was the groupbuy.com page (11.8lbs for the Rotas). What i'm trying to find is somewhere that lists the weights for these wheels. I like the Konigs but can't find anywhere that lists *official* weights for their wheels. Same thing for almost every other manufacturer. Enkei lists the weights for their wheels, but most are pretty damn heavy. I'm not expecting a 10lb magnesium wheel for cheap, but i would think someone out there makes a sub-20lb. wheel for $200ea or less, right? Does anyone know for SURE how much the Konig Imagine's weigh? They look fairly heavy (lots of spokes) but looks can be deceiving.

I found this for the Miata (which i think uses the same lug pattern as the G20), but this is about all i can find and these are not official numbers.

chome plating always will be heaving because it's basically dipped in metallic plating and it adds significant weight. It is not difficult to find a cheap, light weight wheel...Konig for example probably makes wheels that's around 16-18lbs for 17inchers..which isnt bad, HOWEVER, make sure that you also consider the strength of the wheels. My friend had the konig wheels (i already hate them cuz they are jsut really cheezy knockoffs) and they actually had minor fractured in the spokes after a few months and eventually cause the wheels to bent. Now, I am not bashing on Konig or other companies such as Tenzo, Velox, ADR, Maxspeed...all their wheels are very cheap in price, probably lighter than some. (and knockoffs and ugly..but tha'ts just me)
try to look through some pages of SCC...i think every May, they have their wheel guide and it tells you the weight of the featured wheels.

Because calling every single company that makes a 17x7" wheel to fit the G20 would be a lot of legwork if there's a company who sells wheels and gives their weights. Seriousauto.com gives the weights off all their wheels but i'll have to check and see which ones will fit the G20 (i'm not a big fan of the Rotas either).

There are Racing harts going from cheap to cheap in their, they are light wheels and popular in Japan.

konig's website lists weights on their wheels, the 17in. imagine's come in at 20.7 lbs. which is about average.

The average weight of a cast 17" wheels is about the low 20's. These are the cheeper wheels that you can get. You're asking for too much getting a light, strong and cheep wheel.

The general rule is:

Light. Strong. Cheap.
Pick any two!

If you want a lighter, cheaper, stronger wheel stick with a smaller diameter. Or keep on top of the classifids for a set of used lightweight wheels.

Everybody wants the magic 3 combination. I also did when I was wheel shopping. I ran across a deal I couldn't refuse. Although I don't like Konig that much, I bought a set of 16x7 Rated-R's (which is the lightest in it's wheel diameter) brand spankin' new w/nice valves for $420 shipped off of eBay. They've been good to me so far, I also baby them because I don't want something to happen to the rims (such as fractures) and be caught blind-sided. That wasn't such a bad deal as Discount Tire couldn't match or beat the price (which is uncommon). When I got them, the "Rated-R" stickers on one of the spokes looked really corny; you know I removed those. To be honest, yes, they are knock-off. I'm totally comfortable that I have the TE-37 look with more weight and poorer craftsmanship, but I have a polished lip (which looks nice) and paid WAY less. As far as having the light strong cheap combo., I'd say only on a lucky strike for a used pair.

Did you weigh those wheels? I'll bet the are cast and they are not as light and/or strong as a real TE-37.

NO NO NO...Like I said, I know they're heavier and have poorer craftsmanship. When I said lightest for it's diameter, I meant as far as Konig offers.

I'm a fan of the Rated R(ace). Looks nice too, very TE-37, just get some white ones.

Therein lies the problem. I liked the Konig Imagines but they weigh over 20lbs each, so i probably won't get them. I'd rather find a different wheel that's lighter for a little more money. I'm not looking for a *cheap* set of wheels, but i'm not willing to pay $400/wheel either. I figure i'll let form follow function instead of the other way around. Instead of finding a wheel that i like aesthetically, then figuring out that they weigh 22lbs each, i'd rather find the wheels that meet my performance criteria, then decide which one i like most. I wouldn't buy a turbo based solely on how it looks and i won't do so for wheels either.

I'm not planning on getting the wheels until winter is over (though, i'm fickle like that) so i've got plenty of time to shop around and decide what i want. I just thought someone might know of a semi-lightweight wheel that's not too outrageously priced. So far the Racinghart C2's are my current faves (lighter than the Konigs, but about the same price).
