Radio Lock! help!

I've been working on my girlfriends car (88'olds cutlass supreme) today, changing a fuel filter. and what i had to do was disconnect the battery, but when i was all finished i turn the car over and the radio is in "lock" i think, it displays "loc" on the display or something like that. so i assume that it is a security device so people don't steal your radio. does anyone happen to know how i can go about removeing this? so she can listen to the radio? she has all of the org. owners manuals and everything but i didn't see anything about how to return the radio back from lock. also she needed a fuel filter change really bad the filter was cloged and everything, i cut it open to see the insides. after taking it for a spin when you come to a complete stop the car stalls, and you have to put it in park and turn it over agian. does anyone have any idea what it could be? it only stalled once or twice before i changed the fuel filter. could it have to do with the filter change? since it was so clogged? it just hasn't gotten used to it? any ideas would be helpful, thank you

You had to disconnect her battery to change the fuel filter? Ok... :eek7:

Check your fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge.


As far as the radios, this is the process for the CD deck. I assume it's the same for any 88-90 deck with the DelcoLok system.

1. Press and hold presets 2 and 3 for about 5 to 10 seconds until you
get 3 digits on your display. This is the first 3 of 6 digits you will
need, so write 'em down. (mine were 881)

2. After doing step one and writing down the code, immediately press the
AM/FM button to get the last 3 of the 6 numbers you'll need, and write
'em down. (if you wait too long between steps 1 and 2 and the LOC code
displays again, just start over). (mine were 322)

3. Call this number, it's a prerecorded message, so don't worry about
having to talk to anyone...1-800-537-5140. The voice will ask if you're
calling for Chevy, Pontiac, Cadillac, etc... When you hear this,
press 1 for chevy, followed by 02107and hit the * key. (i.e. 102107*) He'll ask you for the 6 digit code that you've written down.(mine was 881 322) Enter that and press the * key. He will then give you a code,(mine was 810 891)

4. To unlock the radio:

A. Turn the ignition on.
B. Press “SET” (000 appears on display).
C. Press “SEEK until the first digit of the code appears.

D. Press “TUNE" until the second and third digits
E. Press "AM-FM" (000 appears on display).
F. Press “SEEK” until the fourth digit of the code appears.
G. Press “TUNE” until the fifth and sixth digits of the code appear.
H. Press "AM-FM". Now the radio can be turned on.

It doesn't really...I just told you how to steal GM radios :naughty: But this info should only be used for good....no evil radio stealing! :nono:

THANK YOU - I bought a used Avlalance and imported it from Austin TX to Akron OH. Former owner will not answer phone calls and messages. LOC showed up on first freezing weather with no battery drain or other reason. Dealer could not get to for four days..., desperate to use radio for the drives home from work and to travel on Thanksgiving. You made it so simple to fix... Locks just keep honest people honest, the thief already knows all this stuff anyway long time ago. THANKS AGAIN for the simple solution.

This happened to me likewise. For GM cars with radio controls on the steering wheel, turn the ignition on, then press the "mute" button on the steering wheel control pad for about 10 seconds. This will send a digital signal to the radio, restoring it to normal operation.
