hey everyone,
I would greatly appreciate your knowledge with cars.
I own a 98 LeSabre, unfortunately I ran out of gas. My car
now idles rough, is sluggish when accelerating, and I am getting less
than 13 miles to the gallon. I am hoping I just need to change the fuel filter. I have spoke to others and I have gotten feedback that it is my fuel injectors or I need to change the fuel pump. It is going to cost me
65.00 just to find out what is wrong if I take it to a shop, any suggestions?

You ran out of gas. Thats murder to a fuel injector. Those whove(Is that a word?) told you it' fuel injectors are correct. You'll need to have them replaced, but don't act until Flatrater responds, he knows worlds more than I.

Hi Godshanna,
Running out of gas is not a good thing. Always have at least 1/8 of gas in the vehicle otherwise the pump gets hot and can go south. Besides it can cause all kinds of problems. First thing I'd suggest is to replace the fuel filter and get a fuel injection service. Hopefully that will help the vehicle. Do you have power or are you lacking it? If you have power than the fuel pump is okay.
Lots of times when we run out of gas, we try to start it and give it a lot of gas at idle thinking that will make the car run when in actual fact we cause more problems like popping a vacuum line and things of that sort.
Getting it professionally checked out is not a bad idea, at least you will know for sure what went wrong after you ran out of gas.
Good Luck.

You may have sucked up the trash at the bottom of your fuel tank when you ran out of gas.
Those little particles will get past the filter and plug the injectors (cleaning the injectors will not help).
First thing is to get it looked at and see where the problem lies
