I'm lookinf to buy a nice chevelle. witha 454 not show but drivable quality, also witha cold AC. But budget is small (around $12,000) does anyone know where i could find one of these beauties for about that? Also, i notice ont eh speedo it only goes to 120..is that the max speed or can it go higher? Any info you can provide on these cars would be great! Thanks!

Rumor has it that a 1970 chevelle SS 454 has reached a top speed of 200, stock

Hell yeah it can go faster..I have a 69 chevelle with the original 307 in it and i can easily and i mean easily reach 100 miles per hour so i just can imagine what a 454 would do...

I don't think they will quite reach 200 but 120+ is not too much of a problem. I have a 72 with a 454.(not the original 454) It's been built up quite a bit and I frequently pin the needle.

Your top end speed will rely more on your tranny and rear end gears than engine size. A stock 283 can obtain speeds over 200 with the proper ratios, although reaching it may take less time with biger motors and more horses, you can still get there. So to sum up, dont forget the rears fellas!

Good point. What will you be sacraficing in order to get that top end though? I guess a 6 speed tranny could be dropped in which can give you the top end want and the low end you desire.
Am I correct in that assumption?
