Flip Up Light Problem

I was driving on the freeway and had to get onto another road and went down to enter and went through a big puddle of water and the water splashed up about six feet high. Then when I got to my destination I turned my lights off because they were on because it was raining and dark. Then when they went down the driver side light started making a noise a loud one for about six seconds. It's like it is the motor or something I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem. Also when I don't even turn my lights on but get out of my car and lock my doors electrically they will come up and go down and make the noise again. If I lock my door manually they will not make this noise. I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem and if there is anyway to fix it because I see other Firebirds who just have their lights up but no lights on so do they just go out or something. Also does anybody know of any good scratch remover or something that can fix bad scratches.

I found a cool page that shows a way that might fix the problem if anyone else is having this problem.

I have the same exact problem--What actually fixed your problem. Mine is a 1999 model. My problem also started after driving in the rain--both lights. same problem with the door locks and remote
Thanks

if you have to buy new motors, go to a junkyard. it will be A LOT cheaper. but make sure you find a junkyard that offers a warranty so if they don't work you can take them back. i have an 89 bird and when i bought it the wires to the motors were cut at the motor. at the junk yard i picked up both for $100 as opposed to $222 each from GM. just think about it. and they are somewhat easy to replace takes about 30minutes per side.

Well, in the case of my friend that "free" fix didnt work but the motor itself was ok he just needed a new gear and he actually found a place online to order a lightweight brass gear or something, as opposed to the cheapy plastic one GM puts in there. See if you can find something like that. Or like they said above just go to a junkyard take one of the motors apart and pocket the gear, cuz that may be all you need...

Thanks to both of you for responding>>
I understand about the gears, getting worn and not sensing when the light doors are down, but what does that have to do with the light doors going up and down, when the door locks and the remote is used when locking the car door?????
Son in law works in a junk yard---much cheaper that way :-)

Costs $81 to do both headlights, I suggest buying 2 new motors and installing dude's nifty little brass gears before installing the new motors (took me an hour and 25 minutes to do both! and I'm a ditzy blonde!!)

Your headlights are going up and down when u hit the remote for the alarm? Well, is it an aftermarket alarm??? If so then who ever hooked it up, hooked it up to the headlights and not the foglights, so it flashes the heaflights when you click the alarm thats why they come up. On my TA its hooked to the fog lights so the fog lights flash when i click the alarm, and NOT the headlights... If it is the stock alarm then I say it must be wired wrong... This is my only guess...
