Anyone Else Have This Problem?

Hey All,
I have a 2003 Grand Prix GT I got about a month ago. I've noticed lately that when A) it rains B) its morning time and dew forms on the windshield, there's some weird looking film over the windshield that makes it almost impossible to see efficiently. When I turn on my wipers, all it does is get rid of the moisture, while still leaving what looks like somebody poured syrup on it. I've washed the car several times, tried using Windex, tried using this other compound I got from an Auto Store that said it removes "silicone buildup, dirt, grease", but to no avail. This is really starting to tick me off, and I was hoping someone could offer me a solution. And yes, the car is still under warranty. Thank you very much!

You could try using some claybar on your windows. I've used the Meguiars brand on my car, and the paint comes out smooth as glass. Give it a try. If it can't get the film off your windshield..nothing will. ;) That's when I'd take it back to the dealer.

I'll post a pic tomorrow so u guys can see what I'm talking about. This is so frustrating. I almost crashed 4 times on the way back tonight, cause I causes light to be spread out over the windshield, preventing me being able to see properly.

You can get the clay bar at Wal mart in the automotive department. My mom bought some to use on her car, but never did. She's not into that whole washing and keeping her car clean thing.

My suspicion is that the problem is on the inside of the windshield, and is the result of the oils from the vinyls and plastics from the interior evaporating. You might try using a steamer or a good window cleaner in the inside. I have seen this even on my 1985 Safari van. It requires that the inside surfaces be cleaned about every three weeks. It is also possible that the laminate between the two surfaces of the windshield has a problem, requiring replacement. This lamination allows the windshield to break without shattering. If this is the case, the dealer should be willing. Ray

The other day I noticed the same thing......but I got to thinking that maybe it had something to do with the de-icer I sprayed on the windsheild a few days prior. But as I read on the responses to your question I think I'll take the one individuals response and try and use a steamer on the inside to see if that helps. Good luck to you too.

I haven't been able to find any of this Claybar stuff. I took my car to the local Pontiac dealership, and they sprayed this aerosol can of glass cleaner, and said "this should work!". Well, at the time it was daylight, and I couldn't tell so I said ok, we'll see, since they thought it was because I live by the ocean and something in the air causes it. This morning I was driving to work and it was worse than ever! I had to have my wipers on the fastest setting to keep it from totally obscuring my vision. I am very dissapointed in this, and think I'll take it back and tell them either replace the windshield or find somebody who can take care of this. It just has to be a problem with the windshield itself and the plastic coating they use to prevent it from shattering, as aforementioned in someone elses post.
I appreciate everyones replies, but I think it's time for Pontiac to deal with it.

I went back to the Pontiac dealership and told em the stuff they used didnt work, so they used steel wool on the windshield. I thought it would scratch the window, but it didn't. I'll reply back tomorrow when I find out if it worked or not, so if anyone else ends up having the same problem they can try it.

Well, several days later, it appears to have worked. The only thing I'm experiencing now is "streaking" from my new wiper blades. I can't recall the exact brand, but it was the most expensive pair I could get from some auto store. I cleaned them off with the supplied cleaning pads, but maybe I didn't clean it enough. So, I'll see what happens. Thanks for all your help!
