has anyone had their starter go? if so what were the symptoms, I know I've had starters go on other cars of mine but I dont know if the symptoms for it to go are different or the same since this is a car that is 10 yrs newer than my last car.

I haven't had mine go but the symptoms will be the same as any other starter.I hope you don't have to replace it as the intake has to be removed to get to it because it is down between the two heads.

yeah I know a mechanic that replaced one and it cost the guy 800 cause he had to pull the engine to getto it. im thinking it would be easier to pull all the body off the front end and get it from there. but I hope its not going cause IM going to have a big project to do, even though i've replaced starters in other cars in less than an hour.
what mine is doing right now is when I turn the key it takes like 3 seconds to start up. that didnt' happen until like 2 months ago I really didn't notice it but its getting more frequent. so I hoping its not that, but Im hoping its nothing worse.

But Silver,,, check the positive battery terminals for corrosion I know it's under the seat but you never know.

Ah yes....the starter. Just did mine this week. Went to a dealer (Maroone Olds/Isuzu, Hollywood, FL) because they were good to me before, replacing my ECM twice for free. But today, they hand me a bill for $1000 for replacing the starter (and the ignition switch and key - which THEY said was bad). Even better....the SM tells me I need a new alternator because it wasn't charging now (It was when I took car in!!). How can GM design a 38,000 dollar car with this many problems?

letting someone else work on your car doesn't help the price of labor your starter would have taken 45 min if you did it yourself.

Hello, I am new to this forum. I recently purchase a 97 aurora about six months ago. My starter has just went out. When I turn the key nothing happens and I just hear a clicking sound. I would like to try and change it out myself but I am having a hard time finding. Can someone tell where I can locate my bad starter?

hennessy20 I have the 96 service manual and according to it you
Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative battery cable at the battery.
2. Positive battery cable at battery.
3. Intake manifold.
4. Solenoid "S" terminal nut and battery cable nut.
5. Starter motor mounting bolts.
6. Starter motor.
I have scanned the picture with the wire routing and location if you like I will email it to you just let me know.

Pullcord, I think the dealer was doing a little bit of guessing repair. I think the alternater was not charging the battery causing it to go down. I believe if you could have got your charging system checked, thats probably what they would have found(most auto parts stores will do a check free). Also check your battery cables, and the wires going to your alternator. I don't doubt that an ignition switch can go bad. But they usually last the life of the vehicle.

I have a 98 and i have replaced the altinator and the batt. I thought it was the starter at first but what it seems is that the batt isn't charging. I can disconnect the alt and the car runns fine. When i replaced the batt it lasted about a week and then the car doesn't start again. I checked the output voltage of the alt and found it to be about 13-14V. Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong.
