try 2-15inch Crewin Vega's they will crush any sub out there look at their specs and compare remember in db the lower the number the better!

www.cerwinvega.com

jl audio are good speakers but don't require much power but the cone is weak compared to cerwin.

Hey i have 2 12 jl w3 v2's ran by a mtx 6500 d amp with a pioneer premeir deh-p940mp deck. It freakin rocks. my box is tuned to 30 db's. If you have the cash i would go with the jl 1000/1 and a jl 13 w7. that shit will pound believe me. :smokin:

We have 3 12" kicker solo baric L7s powered by a Memphis 1000D.... if you have the money... it's very clean and will hit as hard as you want... although I will tell you to make sure you "permanently attach" any audio equipment to your Tahoe. My boyfriend had 4 12" Alpines Type Rs with a Memphis 1000D in his Tahoe and it was stolen after one week... but the new system is rivetted to the frame... and insurance will not cover anything that's not "permanently attached".

Hey tstanks, be very carefull when choosing rims for your tahoe. The aftermarket rims are sure to cause vibration and other problems. At least for me i would never change the rims from the factory ones. And 285s are gonna rub, even on a Z71. Been there, done that with aftermarket rims. They are very hard to keep in balance, not to mention alot of guys like to steal them. Yeah i would'nt run the generals that come on them, change the tires, but be carefull you dont go too big, or too small. This is only an opinion im sure ill get flamed.

I've got a 1996 2-Door Tahoe and I've got centerline rims on it... never had a problem with alignment or balancing... they're not big rims though... I think they're 15s... so.... yeah... just thought I'd throw that out there...

I'm on my 3rd competition truck. I'll give you some ideas on this subject.

First - set a budget.
Second - choose: sound or looks first?

I owned a 94 just like your 96. My 94 Blazer was sick! I ran a 6" trailmaster suspension w/ steering stabilizer & a 3" body lift. I used Bushwacker cut-a-fender flares to accomodate the 38" Dick Cepeks on Mickey Thompson 15X12 rims. I ran a WAAG brushguard & PIAA Ion driving lights, along with a Sir Michael's steel [welded] rear pan. This truck was the ultimate "head turner". Looks came first on this truck. Budget price: $6500 minimum

You can still make the truck look sick by just adding a 3" body lift & fitting 33" tires on 15X10 rims. If they are balanced right ... they'll run smoothly. Buy All-terrains for ride quality - mud tires will look better, but wear out quickly. Also, invest in fender flares - it will keep your paint intact! This budget will keep you under $2000, and you can always add on the 6" suspension lift later for the 37"-38" tires in the future.

As for the sound ... both "Tahoe98" and "BZNUTZ" know what they are talking about. I'm a JL man myself, but the Kickers are just as incredible in sound quality. Either brand will make you happy as all hell with the base & clarity.

Personally, I feel that it comes down to the amplifier ... spend your money there. The better the amp, the better the sound. Use 2 amps (one for just your subs & one for your "highs"), or buy a multi-channel amp to run both. The budget will match right around the truck budget of $6000+ if you want to suffer permenant hearing loss ... but can remain under $3000 if you run just one or two subs & upgrade your highs up front.

If money is not an option ... go with both. Do the soundsystem first, as a lifted truck proves to be a miserable audio install. Otherwise, prioritize which comes first, then buy things one piece at a time ... It will take longer, but will be ten times better in the end.

Hope everything helped.
