1994 Accord Wipers don't always work.

The intermittent, low, and high settings for my wipers do not work until they have been left on for about 4 or 5 minutes. Then, all of a sudden, they work right. But, I can manually make the wipers work by pulling down on the wiper arm anytime. I thought that maybe the wiper motor was going out, but since I can make them work by pulling down on the wiper arm, I am not sure now. Is there some sort of air pressure that builds up for the wipers to work in the low, high, or intermittent settings? Or, are the wipers totally electric? Could it be a relay going bad?
Thanks,
Scott

Well since no one ever replied to my questions, I ended up taking the car to a shop close by. They put on a new wiper arm/switch attached to the steering column. This took care of the problem.

sorry i didnt see your post sooner... kinda figured that would be the prob... and not tryin gto insult your intelligence but you did ask and there is no way better to ask but no, there isnt a vaccuum or anything like that. They actually did have vaccuum operated wipers in like the 50s but now it is just a typical electric motor, not an actuator.
