Hi, I got a problem with my g/fs 94 escort lx with 1.9. I keeps melting the spark plug in cylinder #3. It has been changed twice, mostly recently this morning, and its already staring to hesiatate again. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening??

Try an iridium spark plug.

Be careful with an indistructible plug for you may cause much more major damage. The books I've seen indicate that this is a preignitions problem or maybe a lean mixture problem. I have also seen pictures of holes is pistons from preignition and have heard of lean mixtures warping valves making idle very rough at reasonable idle RPM. Perhaps something is wrong with the injector but have never experienced this kind of problem.
If the above is true in your case, then not fixing the problem may lead to piston damage or to a warped exhaust valve which are not easy to fix. Please fix correctly! I will research this more. Have to go to work now.

toonethedriver got in one.
So far your luckey the sparkpug has been destroyed and not a piston or the head.
The car is either running to lean, or has to much ignition advance, or both.
Make sure your using the right grade of gas, and get the timeing and mixture checked ASAP.

It's weird that its only happening on one plug...could the #3 fuel injector be clogged, causing a lean situation?

I also agree the # 3 injector is at fault.
The timing is controlled by the computer in a 94 1.9. You can run really crappy gas like 89 octane and it can handle it fine as long as the car is stock.
Just trying differnt spark plugs to cover up the problem is the worst thing you can do.
Fix the problem immedatly.

I also have the same problem on my 93 1.9L. Mine was the #4 cylinder. not only did it melt the spark plug, it also burned a hole about 1/4 inch diameter in the exhaust valve. Well I replaced the valve and it ran ok for a few months then the plug melted again. I think the valve is alright , it still has good compression. Any further input would be greatly appreciated.

Put in a new #4 injector.

Replaced my #4 injector , suprisingly easy to change.Got it started and found a really bad gas leak underneath the car. Took out the rear seat and sending unit cover and found the unit soaked with gas and terribly rusted. Ordered a new sender/fuel pump assembly. Thanks for all the help.
