A similar thing happend to me in my 96 grand am. Is it just the lights that are out or the actual readings? My problem occured because I had a radio installed and the morons at the shop disconnected my dimmer dial, so i had to take the panel off and reconnect the little wire sockect at the back of the dimmer, after that everything was fine and it all lit up again. Hope that helps.

nope it happed for no apparent reason. speedommetor, odometor, gas, fuel and temp stay at zero and all the brake, lowgas airbag etc stay on as if the key is turned forfarward and the car is not running.
god i know if i bring it to the dealer i'm going to get wacked for something simple.

Did your guages act strange before they died?
My 1996 lost its guages after they danced all around for about two weeks and finnally died.
I had to replace the whole instrument cluster.
used from junk yard $100- did the work myself
-- when i put it in the car would not start--
I had to leave the key turned forward for about 15 minutes for the thing to set itself and it started fine.
Two years later -- now it is doing it again
A dealer wants about $400-$500 to put in a new one--- you can do it yourself
You might take it out and take it to an electrical place to get it bench tested for power first --$40
good luck
